NY chicken lover!!!!

What breed is best for a rooster? What I want is the trait for good laying of large brown eggs, a good alarm rooster and docile with people. I have had two Black Australorp roos that have ended up turning on me and being human aggressive. I don't do ANYTHING EVER that could be viewed by them as threatening to the flock. I could just be standing in the run feeding the hens and they have come after me. It's been very frustrating.
(Sigh) I miss my Henry (in my avatar). He was a perfect rooster.

He was an EE.
I had a rooster,George, who was a BCM. He was only a few months old but he was very gentle with the hens. Of course he hadn't reached maturity yet but he was huge.
The person I got him from has his father & says he is great with the hens & good protector & good with people

Quote: I have given my girls fart eggs & others eggs that cracked when left in a pocket with no problems. I also cook them up some eggs a couple times a month to eat.

Maybe the eggs were cracked in the nest? I would try giving them some animal protein. Maybe they are needing some and thats why they are eating the eggs? Just a thought
it's another beautiful day to be alive! The sun is out, there is a breeze and I'm working in shorts and sandals again. Perfect day out there!

Nice pic of the creek Chris! We live across the street from Onondaga Creek, only it's not nearly as nice :-( looks like nothing but mud flowing thru there all the time.

I'm lucky. It's down to mostly bedrock out back so I don't get the mud, just algae, so you have to be careful where you step.

Anyone near me know if JJ Feeds carries that liquid form of DE to treat animals with? I want to start treating my birds as a preventive like some or most of you do. I often hear some of you mention you "worm" your birds. How would I go about doing this? I think some of you also use that Eprinex? Sorry I know this was just a topic of discussion but my mind is a jumbled mess over stuff going on this week that I can't remember. I need to make a stop at JJ's this weekend for shavings so I'm hoping they have it but if not I'll take a ride out to TS.

I wish you had asked yesterday, I was there getting shavings and some fly bait. Chris
