Pyxis - glad you are better - sometimes that can put a person out for 2 or more days - not a way to spend your time off !

Sorry to the few that posted about hens dying or being lost I read all your posts and my thoughts go out - but don't want to post back for every single one.

My partridge rock tried to bit me when I picked her up to put her back in the net.

I'm crafty and she didn't get close to a finger - but it cost her ... I held her while I did some chores and then finally put her down.

New Sussex Roo is doing good with the whole flock - but I haven't see him covering any of the hens yet ... I've seen him do that wing display dance - but no one is interested in that dance yet. I do have one hen that is over a year - but she is not impressed.

So silkies how old to tell what they are sex wise or am I just having to see if they lay? My lovely TSC silkies are crazy. The one with no poof on head or leg/feet feathers has a walnut comb the one that has a poof and leg/feet feathers has a straight comb coming in it looks like. I'm guessing both roos one has a good spur spot comeing in I think. Here are a few pics. And to top it off I have no idea what they was mixed with or what egg color they will lay if they maybe are hens. And as you see from the back ground of first pic I have bantam cochin's so probably same egg size I would think cept my silkies are almost the size of my reds.

DO NOT let the single comb fool you. One of my white silkies from last year had a single comb, kept hearing "Oh thats a roo, thats a roo" until finally she laid an egg! That single comb can be tricky unless it's bright red of course. The other one I would think is roo, I've never seen a comb like that on a hen.

Those are some big silkies. The first ones we ever bought were like that. 1 had no poof, just a mohawk, the other had a really big poof. They both turned out to be boys. I couldn't believe the size of them, they were bigger than our EE roo we had at the time. Hope yours don't turn out to be boys. Chris

I was reading a few replys to that and came across this one.

"Now I may not know the complete story.... but the odds of a dog killing your poor $2 chicken and then willingly allowing a stranger to leash it and walk it to a tree to be tied up without doing any harm to the stranger leashing him just does not appear to be very likely"

I don't know about ya'll but for one I have chickens that was well over 2 dollars. Secondly animals that attack animals don't always attack humans. I sometimes like reading all the replys just to see what people have to say.

Also thank you for the replys on silkies from the start I thought the poof was female and slick was a roo but lately been wondering with the wattles the poof is getting. Country boy I have to tackle my bantam cochins again and have ya take a new look at them the white one has Huge wattles now compared to the other two almost 2x as big i'd say. This little bugger trys to own the food dish when I fill it. pecking the reds away and others. I think it was the main roo who beat him up, not fly bites like I was asking a few days ago.



And for a funny pic/story here is my son. He was pulling his hair out at the front of his head saying he had knots in his 2 inch hair... Also said felt like there was tooth paste in it. So I told him he wants to be bald he can have a horseshoe old mans hair cut. Don't worry only lasted a few min for a pic. He didn't mind it the hair cut. He was crying cause I told him the pulled out hair may not grow back.

I made the same comment on a friends FB page. He meant to send me a message with the link and put it on his page first. The very first comment was pretty similar. I had to inform the poor girl that I have 100's of dollars invested into my birds. While I'm all for defending your livestock, what this guy did was just wrong. If he saw it with a chicken in its mouth, he should have done the deed right then. It really amazes me that most people think that chickens are just cheap birds. I love the haircut. You probably scared the poor guy for life Chris

Quite frankly I don't like to see a dog tied to anything. IMO dogs should NOT be tied up.

Caught in the act is one thing, but to drag it around after the fact is abuse. Should have left it up to the authorities if the dog had already left.

What an interesting comb on this guy!

My TSC Silkie has mutant feet.


The 5th toe isn't fully developed and there are two vestigial toes next to the human finger that are nubs with no nails but do have feathers growing out of them. I'm thinking mine is a Rooster, my sister said he tried crowing today (I didn't see it happen) and the waddles are starting to look Mulberry in color when I hold it and get it mad.

Of course he's your son, but is it really necessary to humiliate him further by posting his picture?
