Sight Sexing Ducklings! (for Khaki Campbell's only)
There are 2 kinds of Khaki Campbells. Light and Dark.

The Darker Khaki's are a darker shade of khaki brown. The Light Khaki's are a lighter shade of khaki brown.

Now comes the interesting part, you have to look at the bean on the end of the bill. The adult males have a darker bean then the rest of their bill. The adult females have a bean that is very close to the color of the bill.

You won't be able notice the difference until 4 to 6 weeks of age. As they grow you will see a gradual change as the color deepens. Then one day it will be just as plain as the bean on there bill :)

Here are the adult bill and bean colors:
-Dark Khaki Campbell Drakes has a bluish green bill and black bean.
-Light Khaki Campbell Drakes has a yellow bill and a medium brown bean.
-Dark Khaki Campbell Hens has a slate gray bill and bean.
-Light Khaki Campbell Hens has a slate gray bill and carmel colored bean.
-I have one Lighter Khaki Campbell Hen who dosen't quit fit the standard, she has a medim brown bill and a carmel colored bean. She's very cute and sweet.

Another difference between a male and a female duckling is at 5 to 8 weeks of age. When the male's head and the neck become a shade or two darker then the body feathers. The female feathers are a uniform shade of brown.

A male is about 20% larger then a female.

Now if you think you have a good ear, the voice of a young male is different from a female. As adults the male has a raspy voice, in younger males you can sense that raspy sounding voice. But, it is a challange to detect it. In females the voice is a clear quack and in the young females it sounds like a squeeky toy.

Now, this won't work for most other breeds of ducks, because the bean may not be darker in the adults

Here are my 4 KCs. The newest one stands more upright than all the rest.

the upright one, clearly a drake, green head looks to be part Runner. He stands far too tall to not be part runner. I can only sex my Khaki's by voice. They are just far to similar. But girls clearly quack and male... don't.

I was thinking the same thing about the newbie being part Runner. He just stands too tall compared to my others. This woman doesn't have any runners though. And she said they were all hatched there and were eggs from her KC's. Could it be possible hers are part runner? And that trait was passed down?

Now that I'm on my laptop and not the phone, I'm almost positive I see 3 drakes and a duck. It's odd that 1 has a yellow bill, I never saw that in the Khaki's we had. Our drakes all had the same banding on the wings. Sorry

It's very possible. Maybe Nutty will see this and possibly post a couple pics of the half runner half khaki's she got from me. It might give you a better idea if there's runner in them. I "think" some of them had a more upright stance.

could be a recessed gene that appeared.

Of my 5 khaki's 2 are ducks, 3 are drakes. Unfortunately that means 2 drakes go to camp. But once they get to breeding age I'll have no choice. I find drakes are far "randier" than any roosters ever.

Yesterday was chaotic so I wasn't able to get on and update.  Had to wash and change bedding 2 days running and yesterday it was around work and doctor's.  I didn't get home until 4pm and had to dry bedding, make bed, make dinner, collect eggs, feed horses n dogs, dishes, put groceries away, and set up the girls clothes and bag for today.  Oh and bathe girls!  Never a dull moment.

I passed inspection at the docs office.  Still have some plug and am not dialated.  They asked me if I wanted to be taken out of work, but I said no can't afford it.  I need to push more fluids and try to sit down more.
glad you are well. Go easy and rest. If you don't take care of yourself you won't be able to help anyone else. Money is tight everywhere. We have 4 kids and the laundry is never ending.
