I boraxed my carpets and bathed dogs on Saturday. They've had bathes. I've treated their bedding and my carpets. They've had flea treatment and they are still itching.

According to my vet, it is a terrible year for hot spots due to high humidity levels. My dogs both are suffering the itchies, and my older dog ended up with an infection on his face. He has never had an issue with hot spots until this summer (he is 6). Are you sure it's fleas causing the itching? That being said, reaction to flea bites may take a while to work out of the dogs' systems. Benadryl, 1 mg per 1 lb. of weight does help the doggies itch and is perfectly safe. TOB

Bad year here also for hot spots. My Bear has grass allergies and had several nasty hot spots. I tried Benadryl for a couple weeks but he didn't get any relief. I found this salve at TSC and 2 days after applying it daily the hot spots were GONE .......my vet was very surprised with how quick they healed up.

I also used it on my Lily. She gets frequent UTIs and her skim was irritated. Cleared her up in a few days I also switched them to an all natural food that's recommended for dogs with allergies. So far so good

I'm missing two BR hens and I'm very upset. I don't know what happened. They were there this am and when I let them out this afternoon. I will be keeping everyone inside tomorrow though they will not like it and it will be cramped. I don't know what else to do.

Hope they come home quickly safe and sound.

KIWI and JOANNA'S STORY, as it happened on the evening of July 3, 2013.

Kiwi, a 14 year old CAG escaped July 3/13 while being carried from his outdoor aviary inside his home for the night.

Kiwi's owner is 74 year old widow who does not have the full use of her legs and walks with a cane.

I have been in contact with her because the lost message came to the 911ParrotAlert Face book page.

I have spent a few hours talking to her on the phone...giving ideas on things to do....a lot of emotional support.

It is heartbreaking to here her cry on the phone.
I am in Louisiana , unable to be there..

Many of you know the heartache of losing your bird...

She has been on the road daily since July 4th from dawn to dusk, calling out his name with his/my favorite whistle, which he responds to..

Kiwi, my beloved 14 year old African Grey Parrot, which I adopted at 3 months of age, flew from my hand as I was carrying him indoors from his outdoor aviary, on the evening of July 3, 2013, in Manlius, NY

My husband passed away 3 years ago and left his spirit in KIWI; Kiwi adopted my husband's voice and mannerisms. I love both my husband and Kiwi...now they are both gone.

I am heartbroken and devastated. Kiwi gave me much comfort.

Kiwi flew from the Salt Springs Road, Manlius, New York area.

Please check all out buildings, Kiwi will look for cover.

He is shy and probably hard to catch. He comes to his name and a human whistle. Please call me at first sighting. He will be hungry, please offer him fruit, nuts or veggies. Hopefully this will keep him there until I arrive.

He may step onto a branch or finger if approached in a non threatening manner, especially if the person is a woman.
He will not come to a man.

All I want is Kiwi. Kiwi was with me for 14 years and his home is with
me. Kiwi calls me Joanna. Kiwi is not banded and has an abnormality which I will describe.

I have increased my reward to $1000.00 for the RECOVERY -

NO QUESTIONS ASKED REWARD...means I will not tell where the information came from.

You may have Kiwi and not know I am looking for him.
You may have purchased him and not knowing he was a lost bird and I am looking for him.

POSSIBLE SIGHTINGS up to July 30/13

The areas that Kiwi was sighted are : Cazenovia, Manlius and Chittenango, the latter was most recent. Please keep in mind that these people thought they saw him because they saw an unusual bird. They did not relate it to Kiwi until they saw his photo which was stuffed in their mailboxes a few hours after the fact.

There was one isolated call from Elbridge which is on the West side of Onondaga County. Need to look at Onondaga and Madison County. My intuition tells me that I should concentrate in the Cazenovia, Chittenango, Kirkville, Minoa, Bridgeport, Fayetteville, Manlius, Jamesville, Pompey, Tully, Fabius, Canastota, Earlville, Nelson and possibly Oneida areas which are in Onondaga and Madison Counties.

The trees in Upstate New York are tall and thick with lush foliage, making it difficult to see him. How does a 74 year old woman climb a tree?
It is impossible. I am limited of what I can do physically. Mentally, I can do so much more. I am afraid that I will not see Kiwi again.

The Upstate area is more wide open country than city.

Are you aware that you can use Exprinex on your dogs and cats?   Plus you can dust them with DE too.   

I personally don't go out to the chickens in shorts since there may be ticks.  Will not get guineas, will not get guineas, will not get guineas, will not gggggggggggggeeeeeeeeeeeeeetttttttttttttt..................  ......................................

Ha! I said we'd never get guineas too. We have 5 now and still wonder if they we a good idea. With all the yard we have, they still like to play in the road, so they stay penned up most of the time.

Beautiful birds TOB!!! Rancher did a good job growing those girls out for ya ;-) My Buff Orp has a larger red comb and waddles than all my other hens. I thought she was a roo when she was growing out because her comb was so much larger than Stella's. Not sure why some hens have larger combs than others...

Thanks, Lynzi. I wondered if it had something to do with "top hens" in the pecking order. Thought I heard that somewhere, but maybe I'm imagining that! I know combs differ per species, too.

Thanks for the product info -- worth a try for future problems. QUESTION: what are grass allergies and how do they manifest? My younger dog seems to hate going outside anymore, and I still think some insect is nailing him from the grass, but was curious about your dog's issue with grass allergies. My neighbor's choc. lab has red and sensitive paw pads. Presumably grass related. But my dog's issues are his inner thighs, groin and armpit areas which have tiny dots.

The vet says the constant scratching, licking their paws and scooting. He said the 3 signs of allergies are ears, paws and rears. Lol Bear used to itch constantly and lick his paws. Of course rolling in the grass didn't help :/

Lily just licks her paws and scoots, but that is more from eating anything she can eat. She has a sensitive stomach as well so it doesn't help her constant eating of anything she can.

Since switching their food I've noticed the scoots and licking of paws are less. Even digging at their ears is almost non existent. I use frontline plus for flea and tick prevention. Doesn't smell nice but it works. I have 4 indoor cats and don't need a flea infestation. Plus I am very sensitive to their bites. My old apt got infested once and it was not fun

If you hear of an outcome, please keep me posted. Certainly, a prayer for a happy ending is in order. If they are searching in a 30-mile radius, Kiwi must be a proficient flyer. I don't know whether that's a good or a bad thing...

Thanks for the clarification. These symptoms are definitely different than what Merlin seems to suffer from. I need to get some Frontline (I used to use this but stopped because I wondered if it was actually irritating Merlin's skin...but now I don't think that is so and he needs some sort of protection). I hope your sensitive doggies get some relief soon. There are some things that almost (almost!) make me wish for snow. This summer has been tough on my dogs.

Oh wow, I wonder if I can find a way to get at few then...it's on the edge of my woods and where these woods start there's a sort of "wall" to get up there. Some of these apples are also getting some red on them, not that you can tell in this picture but maybe you can see what I mean by their size...

looks like a Wild American apple tree. I also have at least a dozen of them. Many even most of them I can eat right off of the tree. They are on the tart side generally. Most are moist, some are drier. The drier tarter ones I only use in baking. The sweeter ones we eat or bake with, or can, or freeze etc. When we have an apple crop (when there isn't a late frost) we don't buy apples. Somewhere I have a picture of one of my tiny tractors pulling a wagon 1/2 full of an hours collecting for preserving one way or another
Is that tree 20 feet or higher as it appears? Gotta be a wikd American apple

Can't tell exactly if this is the same tree but looks like it. The apples aren't tiny but not large either. The deer love them. Stony, what do you think?
