Wanted to share my good news...
My aunt was diagnosed a few months ago with chronic leukemia (this after being on meds for years for severe rheumatoid arthritis). She has been taking chemo in a pill form and just got a call from the doctor yesterday that her blood is LEUKEMIA CELL FREE!!! Her white blood cell count is NORMAL!!!
Feeling very thankful this morning.

FIL's surgery is being scheduled for his bladder.

Girls are on a roll this morning. 8:30 and already 9 eggs laid Wow!

This IS wonderful news!

After the blue one flew out I figured the black one (who I am naming Lucy) would follow shortly after, so I began recording her. Well it was about a 2 straight minutes of loud quacking so I gave up and just went up there and helped her out. They're doing great in the yard. Free ranging with the KCs and the chickens. Doesn't look like I'll have to worry about them too much. Those are some good girls you've raised

So if their mother laid an bluish egg with either of these two lay that color? That would be cool. Thats another reason why I was trying so hard to find magpie females because I read they lay a bluish greenish egg. I don't have any blue/green chicken layers so I thought that would be an added bonus if I were able to find females.

I'll be placing an ad tomorrow for these Magpies.

Not actually blue/green like a chicken but a noticeably blue tint to them, really easy to tell apart from the khaki's.

I have a question, not sure if this sounds stupid or not but here goes...

If you have more than one rooster or male duck (We'll call them A and B) with say a few hens and one of the males mates with one particular hen then obviously her eggs are fertilized by that male. Lets call him Male A. Well if in the next few days Male B mates with her are her eggs now fertilized by Male B or are they still fertilized by Male A? Or is everything screwed up now? This is why I took Duncan away from the bigger girls before I got Gru. I wanted to make sure that if they were fertilized they were only done so by Gru and not Duncan.

I'm asking because I'm still on the fence as to whether or not to get rid of BOTH magpie drakes or keep one. Just wondering in case I want to keep one around to breed with my KC female or runners, seeing as how the Magpie breed suggests that is it has Indian Runner in its ancestral bloodline.

Time will tell, Jlaw. The Great New York State Fairgrounds is in Syracuse/Solvay. Rt 690. It has something for everyone, bring money and comfy shoes.

Keep in mind folks that there is shuttle service. Myself and a friend usually park for free at Shoppingtown Mall and pay the $1 to ride. Other places I know of are near the Regional market and Seneca mall in liverpool. You might want to check if you don't want to mess with the fair parking.

Lynzi - I wish that I was ready and I'd take your magpies. I am planing on trying to get a few ducks next year late spring. I have a small pond in the back side yard, but it is over grown. I think that it used to be where a silo once stood. I plan on starting to clear it this fall then finish in the spring. Still in the research stage. Trying to decide what duck would be best for our family. Eggs aren't a big deal, looking for more of 'pet" type.

Ok so if I kept one of these magpies and also got a runner drake, and the runner females were fertilized by the magpie first, those eggs would remain fertilized by that drake for certain amount of days before they could be fertilized by the runner drake even if he were to get a hold of them the day after?

But at what point does the switch happen? I thought a roo can fertilize up to a month after mating? So roo A could still fertilize an egg in her 3 weeks after being separated. Am I wrong on this?

The way I understood fertilization is this :
A hen stores the sperm in her body for 3 - 4 weeks ...I believe both A & B could fertilze the egg after the 1st week . As both sperm could be in her body still .

Jlaw I think I am going to show some silkies too next year. I have a gorgeous Lavender pair that are show quality and a Porcelain Pair too.
Luv I want to go but will not be the weekend as we have to get son all settled in up at Plattsburgh for College and not sure if hubby wants to do all that walking with him being only a couple of weeks out of surgery.
Gramma would love to but the day before I have to make that 3 drive to Plattsburgh and back son starts school on the 26th.

Hubby is doing better with drinking and is feeling much better he was actually out there today cutting boards for the pig pen but later we went to the Woodsmens Field days and he got pretty tired walking so we left. Been trying to finish up everything for son to go off to college next weekend. Then fall semester starts back on the 28th so back to work for me.
