There's a canning thread on BYC???
I canned a case of half pint salsa jars last week. The case is half gone. My entire family LOVES it, so I bought 25 pounds of tomatoes today. Still need a dozen green peppers, etc. If I make 4 cases, MAYBE I'll have enough to get us through till Christmas.
What are you canning now?

Why do you think I love BYC? Lots of nice people and common interest to yours truly.

By the way, If you don't have enough tomatoes to can, you can use what you have to make salsa. Or you can do them up and freeze them like I did one year.

You also can just wash them and freeze them whole and when they're thawed the skins come right off. Run them through a food mill and that's it. It's all on the Canning thread.

Also I will type up any recipes you'd like since it helps keep my fingers nimble.

One of the reds laid a 2.8oz egg today. Poor girl.

Also, is it normal (maybe not normal, but is it even possible?) for a chick to be able to rock the egg before lockdown? I candled tonight to make sure everyone was doing well and when I put one of the leghorn cross eggs back into the carton flat that I use I swear the egg moved. Eggs are due to hatch around the 2nd-4th

Rancher, I have crab apples. I'm not sure if they're the eating kind though. Kinda small and really red. You're welcome to them if you want.

The wife and I are going to the fair tomorrow if anyone else is going. We'll be there bright and early, around 9am.

Chickens don't read our calendar...so they may hatch days early....so rocking and rolling days before "hatch day" is totally possible.

I'm canning salsa now (water bath), but finished reading the directions for my pressure canner that I've had for over a year and haven't been brave enough to use. I don't know why, but I'm scared to use it. lol I have a huge 23 qt canner... better make use of it!
