This is what I paid for. Organic apples. Now in all fairness I bought them a week ago, but these are the only ones like this. I bought two kinds. The other larger and yellow were for the most part fine.

I tried to post this earlier but the Internet kept going out. I hate Verizon.

Internet finally back on, been intermittent though. One of our big pine trees was struck during the 3am storm this morning. Tree is still up, but has a scar with missing bark. Will need to get a pro out to evaluate whether the tree will survive our harsh winds or if it needs to be taken down. Has to be professionally taken down if so, as it is close to the house. Hubby and I were awake with all the thunder, but little girl slept through it all.

These are few of the apples my dad sent me yesterday. They're from a wild tree that grows along the road just down from their house. Some had blemishes which I used in applesauce and I kept these nicer looking ones for eating out right.

Yesterday we grilled a pork shoulder roast after brining it for a few hours. I'm going to make BBQ pork sandwiches with the leftovers.

Hello Princess,
We were at the Mennonite quilt auction yesterday. Most of the 'typical' quilts went for around $3-400 apiece!! but we picked up an unusual denim quilt for under $200........I see more overtime in my future!
Are you over on the Millers' nursery side of the lake?

Frizzles posted to CL $10 for all. I'd expect them to be medium sized since the father is a Del and the mother is larger than her bantam mom. She's in the front the roo chick is on the right. Members of BYC can have them all for free. They need to go.

I lost one of my hens today too. I have no clue why. Yesterday she was listless but eating. I checked her over and could find nothing wrong. Put her up on the roost last night next to her buddies. At some point she fell off and passed. Everyone else seems to be just fine, so it was specific to her.

Sorry to hear this, ChickPrincess. I've said this before -- I know these types of experiences and losses are ahead of me at some point or other as part of raising chickens. But it still makes me feel bad and worry a little, even though I know it's part of the deal. I am especially always observing the Brabanter closely for trouble, as she is the one that just doesn't seem to be thriving. Nothing over the top, just not feisty like the other.

I'm glad your other flock members seem well...

Ok, to all you Canners out there. All this talk of Jams & jellies & sauces etc., prompted me to go on a hunt for my mother's canning equipment ! It was easy to find nestled in a back corner in the cellar. I pulled out the big enameled pots and from years of use the enamel inside he pots has chipped and consequently rusted. Is there any thing special I should use on the rust ? or just a bit of old fashioned elbow grease ? The metal rack that holds the quart jars is also rusty. Should I just get a new one or try to revive the one I have. What about soaking it in Coke, do you think that will take the rust off ?
