So did you cut off her comb ?apple
I would test it to see if any nerves are in it first before I would cut it off . Maybe a razor blade would be sharp enough to do it quickly & painlessly ?
Or you could clamp it ..then it would die by itself ..

Cute tomato Tents ! I am taking a chance that it wont frost & did not cover anything ..My garden plant are all close togetherWe are suppose to get to the low 40s or high 30s. I covered my veggies that I could.....it's a little red neck looking but it works
I have my ear listening for bad chicken sounds ..& I check every once in awhile & walk around our propertyke ...
so sorry to read about the loss of your little cochin to an aerial predator. Every now and again I let my 3 youngsters out to free range for a half hour or hour before I put them in the 2nd smaller pen. I must go to the window every 5 minutes to check them -- I'm so on edge! I don't know how you free-rangers do it! I love seeing them wandering in the yard, though, and they do enjoy the freedom! I notice they stick very close to the coop and tend to move around it, but not very far from it.
Tonight I was fussing a little over the big drop in the temperature (predicted). I have been leaving the coop door open (there's a screen door for protection) most of the summer. Tonight, I closed it, along with the big window. I only have the smaller window open a few inches for ventilation. Hopefully, the girls are starting to acclimate to cooler nights.

Some People wait a week ..28 days for slow hatchersNo sound or movement from the four eggs that are still in the incubator. I'm going to give them a couple of days before I call them quits. They had been alive just a few days ago... though 7 out of 11 is better than none.
That is normal for a roo not raised by you ..mine is similar ..he was a year when we got him .Nutty - Thanks he's doing so well. Today I had to work late till 9 and he had everything done except getting eggs LOL but I'm not too worry about that all the chickens were counted and locked up. The cats and dogs were all fed and taken care of. He got himself his dinner played hide and seek with friends and of course when I got home he had our pit mix sitting with him on the couch. Our neighbor even gave him some chicken magazines!! I tell ya when done right animals can really teach kids responsibility!
With that said he did get the eggs when I got home so no issue there. It's hard now that we have a roo We have to remember to get the eggs and in the frig. I'm so use to leaving them out because we eat them within two weeks. Love our roo though he sure keeps the lady's inline and makes sures everyone gets their share of treats and food. Iove how he watches everyone one eat as he takes a very small bite and continues to watch over them. Though my barred rock has been picking on him she is not ready to share her thrown as top hen, she is like half his size. LOL It's better now but I was angry when I saw her rip out two tail feathers. I love my boy even though he's scared of us he hides behind the girls at night when we check in on them but once you pick him up he calms down.
Well Good night gotta some homework to finish and a hip to nurse I felt good today and ran hard and I feel it LOL.
