NY chicken lover!!!!

I went to town hall to renew my dogs registration and decide to pop into planning and development since I was already there. Found out they knew who I was the moment I mentioned chickens (I guess am the first chicken complaint they have had in the town in recent memory) and that there are about 10 complaints against me, the earliest being from 4:30am but they did not say how far back the complaints go.. I spoke with a code enforcement officer himself and another gentleman whos title i didnt get. We talked about the property being zoned, it is still RA. They found it odd since I am smack in the middle of a gigantic cluster of R-3. They acknowledge that I am legally allowed to have Duane! I told them that I am looking to rehome him if I find that keeping him locked in the coop until late morning does not solve the conflict with the neighbors. I tried to be as civil and nice as possible and hopefully this continues to be as positive as this morning felt.

Well that seems like that is good news!! Hopefully they remind your neighbors your RA if they complain again. I would think if there were that many complaints over a long period someone would of stopped from the town to visit you awhile ago. Guess your neighbors should of checked their neighbors zoning if they were concerned about natural noise :)

AND a good thing that is coming from this .... your chickens are "grandfathered" in even if your neighbors get the zone changed to R3 later ... you can keep all the chickens you have until the end of their life and PERHAPS - you can keep any chickens - it depends on the way it is worded - but don't let them know you know this yet ! :) In my area - if you have a use for your property - you can continue with THAT use for as long as you wish - but you can't abandon the use for longer than 6 months and pick up with it unless it meets the current zoning.

So in our area - you could be a chicken keep forever now - as long as you always have some chickens there. :)

Was about to say good morning but I see it's already 12:30! Holy Moly! Just got done designing a website for a family member and it does not feel like it took me 2.5 hours! LOL Guess I was really enjoying that putting that thing together.

Anywho...It finally stopped raining/thundering and is looking nice out there. Need to fix the bigger chicken coop today. The lid to the nestbox is starting to come loose. I have to say, for being a store bought coop made out of cedar, it really is holding up pretty well after I stained it. I plan on throwing another coat on it before winter. Then next fall I may make the roof better by nailing some shingles to it to protect it a little better. But this will be the second winter and it's still looking pretty good. It's actually going to be the duck's house when my new coop arrives. I think the ducks will be happy to be in something a little bigger than they are in right now. But I don't worry about them too much because they just use their house to sleep in. They're free range during the day.

Good job, Gramma! A dog doesn't totally preclude the predators, unless it is outside roaming all the time. Mine is in with me. But it sounds like you are doing a fine job on your own.
Im just the watcher ...Im like theres a fox ...get it ...get it . GET IT !
this one was getting too brave ! I am soooo glad the farmer cut the clover in the field ...
Who knows how many times it was lurking back there & we couldnt see it .
sometimes it would walk right down the road in front of our house 10 am - noon.
No doubt trying to see if any chickens were out ..

You look like you are making progress . Keep a level head & be pleasant ! Let the complainers be the un pleasant ones .
You could put save my chickens ...Because if they feel they can get rid of a rooster ...the chickens may be the next thing they try . .
Publicity .. could help you ..OR get the local paper involved or a TV news crew
