Attention Beacon, New York chicken owners! There is a proposed law before the Beacon City Council that would severely limit the right to keep chickens in Beacon. Some of the aspects of the proposal include:
Best of all, the punishment is a fine or up to 15 DAYS JAIL! If you are opposed to this change, contact the mayor and the city council. You can find their email addresses and phone numbers here:

There is also going to a public hearing on this that is currently scheduled for Oct. 21 at the City Council Meeting which starts at 7PM. I tried to attach the proposed ordinance here but I have not been able to. Please contact me directly and I will send it to you.

- No roosters
- 8 foot fences around run
- Permit requirement (Don't know how much this will cost!)
- Only single family homes can have chickens
- No roosters
- Coops/Run must be 5 feet or more from property line
- No electricity to coop
- Other issues.
