NY chicken lover!!!!

Just want to say that I use those "red" plastic one gallon waterers and I believe they get harder to clean as they age. (kinda like me) They seem to get slimier faster the older they get. I'll have to start replacing them a couple at a time.

I have brushes hanging on the fence. One is, one of those you can put dish soap in and the other is a baby bottle brush to get into the trough. Anyhow they can be a pain and hard to clean after a couple of years or so.

Pyxis - if your other neighbor is just as disgusted as you - if you BOTH file a complaint it will really hold weight.

Also - even if jerk-o runs over to get her dog - you do NOT have to hand it over.... you can say the cops are on the way and she can just back up on off your property or be hit with trespassing charges too - tell her she can try to tell the cops to hand the dog over to her, but you are not.

They obviously think you will never do anything because you were nice and gave them a few chances - they don't deserve anymore consideration from you - they are acting like animals not humans and so you can't give them any humane treatment. Sorry you are going through that - thank heavens Lemon is ok ! She is the best. :)

I am toying with getting some guard geese - but I don't want them wandering over to my neighbor's place ....how far do they roam - do they coop up at night like chickens or like ducks? I don't have energy for another project right now - so if they need my attention beyond food and water - I may have to wait for a few years as others projects get finished.

Rancher - good !

Tab - yep - that name really goes ! congrats again

Thanks for checking on the Marans Roo - I am not rushing to find him a home & someone on here is interested, but we are so far away that we are putting that on hold for a few weeks - too much to do before the snow flies .... can't take 1/2 a day to re-home a roo

Love all the pictures the rest of you share - keep it up.

I don't know where in "upstate" you live.  In or near Troy a new indoor shooting range opened up.  They also give lessons and will teach you everything you need to know about guns.  You would be in very good hands. It might be a good time to get a gun........

I'm actually considering it. At this point I'm at the end of my rope and it would be nice to have one around if I started having problems with other predators. But I'd definitely want to take a class first, and Troy is pretty far from me - I'm actually on the Vermont border. If anyone knows of a good place to learn closer to me I'd love to hear about it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm going to call the police this time, or animal control. I've just had it. The other neighbor probably won't complain with me, since they're a little anti-police and tend to get up to some things themselves, but I have pictures of that dog in my yard with dead birds so I'm sure I can make a good report all on my own.

As for the geese, they're not hard. They eat what the chickens do, and Lacie goes into her coop every night at about the time the chickens do. If you can stand the noise, you might also try some guineas - them alerting yesterday is what saved my birds.

Yikes, I am glad you will talk to animal control or the police. I think the ac would be the better. On our street there were a couple of dogs who were roaming a bunch of years ago, before chickens. They were upsetting to my friend who lived closer to them. Animal control came over a few times and said, we can make them go away if you want. Those dogs were messing with my friends cats and perhaps her dog. Maybe your neighbors would be more able to talk to ac than police, too.

You probably would only need one trip to the gun range. A fellow at our Rod and Gun Club showed me how to work my gun and helped me sight it in and shoot at little targets in a little over an hour. Now perhaps I am a fast learner, but I doubt it, since we have established that I may well be the oldest one on the thread...

Ok I don't know what's worse, the traffic at the end of my road for the Apple Fest or the amount of ladybugs outside today!!! OMG Gross! You can't stand outside my house without at least 20 landing on you and they BITE! And of course out AC units are still in the kids' bedrooms upstairs so guess what's up there! My son says to me, "Mom, you HAVE GOT to come up in my room and vacuum the ladybugs out of there, there are probably a million up there!" He wasn't kidding!

I have never seen so many in a house ever! Took the ACs out, vacuumed them up, now I'm going to have to make a run for the woods to empty it out. Holy Moly!

Really wanted to clean out the coops today too. But if I'm going to be attacked and bitten by ladybugs forget it!

Afternoon all. Seems all the mean and rude people were out today. Why would you antagonise the person who gives you your drugs? That's like insulting your waiter at a restaurant. Good thing I have lots of patience and am a professional.

Let the silkies uot for a while and refereed them. Locked them back up and let out the divas and terrorists. Kept bill in the run then caught him. He wasn't happy but I walked around with him tucked under my arm then sat down for a while. I didn't let him go until he relaxed enough that I felt he would go without turning back on me. He ran off and kept a respectable distance while I was busy filling feeders. The boy will learn respect, one way or another. Going to dig out my pressure canner and make some soups. Took out some dried hot peppers to remake jam. I think I figured out what went wrong.
Time to go make supper. Enjoy your evening.

I didn't know lady bugs bit. Though I have read they're good luck. Keep us posted if anything great happens, like you win the lottery. If you do and share , I got first dibs.

As for the Apple fest, we don't go just because of the traffic. It's a nightmare. Don't they have shuttles by now?

I need to clean out the runs and bought a new wheel barrow just for that, but my side really hurts. I tried to so some things but making sure they had water was just about it. Plus I need to mow grass and that means emptying the bag into the compost pile. I've got garlic to plant too.
