   I don't understand why BYC has a spoiler alert. If someone can't handle the images of dead chickens then they better not own chickens. Nothing against you JLaw. I just don't understand BYC's thinking. Dead chickens are a fact of chicken raising. Funny....I just wrote an article about that

I meant I don't know why BYC even offers it. I have never looked for the spoiler alert. I assume the poster does it. I just put up pics of dead stuff without warning. Death is a fact of chicken life

Nutty is trading me for all my extra birds and CR's and a BM and perhaps an EE and any others I can snag. So I feel better. At least til late winter when I start hatching again.

Update on the Sussex hen, she is out with her friends now. I kept her inside since the attack. Not a mark on her and she was eating and leaving some serious big poops. My measure for how they're doing in such situations. If they're eating and pooping that's a good thing.

I had to put down the BR roo. He was doing fine but took a turn for the worse and I just couldn't let him suffer. Everyone else in the coop is fine. I have no idea what was wrong. I think when you free range they might eat something that is not good for them.

I had been giving them some vanilla yogurt with their pellets mixed in and he was eating it, but not so much this last time. He was very weak and had no fight in him poor guy. I will try to order eggs from Jeremy. I do like BR's and they are very well camouflaged.

I also may order from Paul Harter again, Dels and NH's. If anyone is interested. I won't be keeping them all.

Thanks guys I think its a dog we don't see foxes really close to our yard 3 dogs tend to ward most stuff off around here. Now if I was up the road closer to woods I may see them. I would also think a fox would carry off dead not leave them around. All wounds I could see was on the back only extra wound I could see was one legg of a barred rock is dislocated at joint by body sorry cant remember the name. I could twist it any way I need to. I am going to turn of my dogs that has house problems into an out side dog once I find out how to keep him healthy out side in winter or maybe bring him in during winter. Also I plan on getting security cams to see what runs through my yard day and night. I only have 2.5 acres that I live on surrounded by grape fields and hay fields then woods. I have personaly not seen grey foxes only red around here but who knows what roams where I never count any predator out it's why I came here to ask cause I don't know any preds hunting habbits or bites.

As for the spoiler I used just cause some people cant handle blood and you never know whos kid is looking over shoulder.

Got two eggs from my OE frizz but not sure if the roo got to her or not she was fast going to incubate after ordering some barred rock hatching eggs I lost 5 of my 6 hens that I could mate with roo for sexlink chicks.

domestic dog is still my 1st predator choice. My thoughts exactly on the grey fox. It would more likely than not carry off it's kill unless scared off by a larger predator like a human. My guess is you will find chicken feathers in your neighbors yard. The one with the dog.
i had only seen red foxes here until the day I killed a grey fox. That fox took a RIR hen right at the corner of the back deck 30 minutes before sunset. When hungry they get bold. But I still think it is a domestic dog in your case

Tonight I made a Homemade apple pie didn't even cheat by using the canned stuff and it is the best apple pie I have tasted in forever. I normally cheat and use the roll out Pillsbury crust and canned pie filling but decided this year to do a crust from scratch and actually pick apples off of my trees that I normally just let fall off and the deer eat them. I have 5 different types of apple trees plus we also have crab apple and wild apple trees. I used a mixture of tart and sweet apples and it was delicious. Now that it is starting to cool down I love to bake.

Not sure who else on here has pigs I know I saw some one did but I have Hereford Pigs and the crazy things act like dogs they even wag their tails when they see me and come running up to be scratched. Today I was scratching the male whose name is Bacon and he sat down the next thing you know he is falling asleep and almost falls over but woke up as he started to lean LOL!

Today one of the teeny boppers graduated and is now a layer an olive egger. That is 2 new layers in 2 days soon should have a bunch of the teeny boppers laying.

Ok am off to get ready for Midterms this week.

Cuz you have to wait "till" next year to start planting? Ok that was lame...But seriously I'm thinking of asking my neighbor to come till a spot for me so I can start a garden next year.

I didn't think it was lame...just funny. ...I have my father-in-law come and do it with his tractor. He does brush hogging, tilling, plowing, and postholes. He started doing it when he retired a while back. Keeps him busy.
