NY chicken lover!!!!

Yeah the ticks have been horrible. Not so much in the summer but as soon as it got cold, they've come out in force. The frontline seem to slow them down but it certainly hasn't taken care of all of them. With Zeke they've been easy to spot with his daily lovins. Our Sheltie, Bo, on the other hand has long thick fur and you need to get right down in there to find the little critters.

Lynzi You can't just move her house like that. The poor girl is all confused :)

AQHA Sorry. I don't have any others to part with. The 2 older chick's I have are still a crapshoot as to what they may be. I probably won't know until almost spring.

Too Cute ! Poor little dyed babies

This has been the worst tick year I've ever seen. I have pulled more ticks off my dogs this year than I have in past years combined. Some were embedded already, and others were just crawling on their fur in hopes of finding the gravy train. I have also found 4 or 5 crawling on ME this past summer at our cottage in Canada, where they are also out of control bad this year. Last year I had a deer tick bite me and attach (I think I told you this already) but luckily this year, none got that far! They are so disgusting!!

The ones in your pic look like regular dog ticks (not deer ticks) but I am not 100% sure.

Hi New Yorker! I am in central NY looking for Barred rock breeders and Buckeye breeders. Anyone know someone?
Welcome ! I am sure someone can help

ha ha ha love the colored peeps !

Brella - thanks ! I am writing some Roman Republic historical novel (not trashy gladitar stuff - but real heroism stuff) and this will help me to set the scene for one of my warriors. :)

All my guys are in the hoop coop for the winter now ! I feel it is racoon and fox proof now - but still think if a weasel came around it could pull and pick at the seams and get in.

Any ideas of smells or things that repel weaslly little things ?

About the hoop i like to use hardware cloth over the cattle panels, expensive but worth it and it will last. I also like to dig down about about 8 -12 inches and use hardware clothe and heavy rocks for diggers. I love hardware cloth!

I got leaves everywhere for the chickens they love it.

Still have a headache from yesturday. Off to work

Oh - I put hardware cloth ALL OVER it - but I didn't OVERLAP it ... and so I am seeing gaps along the seams which a weasel could weasel through

If it can make it through the winter - I want to build another and better for the main coop and use this one as a breeder coop - so I can do the the next one with the overlap .... Even doing zip ties to connect the seams every other panel is not tight enough for weaseling ..... blah.
