So I was cleaning out our "Junk Drawer" in the kitchen today and found this loose light/plug that used to belong to my son's robot lamp. I found a light bulb that fit it and seeing as how I moved the chicken coop close to the porch, I can now have light in the coop for an extra couple of hours a day!!Hopefully this will help with their lack of laying this year!![]()
Well I'm getting NONE. I haven't been getting any for a while now and I would say that everyone is pretty much done with their molt too. So this is all I have left to try before I go back to buying store eggs. While I am concerned with some of them not laying and not having been laying for a while, I refuse to put a light in the coop. I still get a few eggs each day.

agreed. No lights for me. I see no point in burning out the hen by making her lay eggs when natures says she needs a break now. I'd rather have them lay later in life than burn them out young. I have a couple of 7 year old RIR's that still lay a few eggs a week most of the year. While I am concerned with some of them not laying and not having been laying for a while, I refuse to put a light in the coop. Also, I wouldn't have done anything with light either for these guys but since I moved their coop yesterday and came across this cord today, it was a 2 minute set up and I'm just seeing if it works. If it doesn't, I'll save the few cents on my electric bill and discontinue using it.![]()
You said that just fine. I understand. Thank YouTab, I too am sad to hear that your gram has died. Perhaps it could be a sign that they are together. I know that when I remember one of the people I have lost, somehow I think of them all, so having your gram and your brother be connected by special days special to each makes that connection very strong. I may have said that poorly, but I do believe in connections.
Hug.
I would have no problem giving them a break but I barely got any eggs from them at all this year. They were off and on like no other between being broody, molting, whatever other issues they were having. Like I said, if this doesn't help then I'll call it quits with the lamp. I just want to see if it helps at all.agreed. No lights for me. I see no point in burning out the hen by making her lay eggs when natures says she needs a break now. It usually takes my wife a few adult beverages before she starts marking the yard![]()

Guilty as charged! Before we leave for long weekends, I like to personalize the exterior of the chicken's area with a little of my private stock. Anything to keep them safer!
