NY chicken lover!!!!

I have read to open an outlet and stuff into the wall some cotton soaks in mint oil. Not sure if that will work in your walls but that's what I've read.

I went around in our basement and used that foam stuff to fill in all the cracks I could find and still we get mice in the attic. I hate meeces to pieces!
We used that foam stuff too when we moved in and noticed lots of holes in the ground around the foundation. But they chew it. As a matter of fact, I found a spot that we sprayed that foam into from the outside, chewed to pieces the other day! Made me so mad. I'm going to open the outlet covers in our bedroom and try that mint oil trick and see if that helps. We have more than enough outlets to try it in, can't hurt.

Question...Where would one buy Mint Oil?

Nevermind, DH is going to make some at work and bring it home.

Be sure to let us know. Lord have mercy I've tried every thing . Only reason I use snap traps is I know I've got the suckers!

I'll tell ya, having this light in the coop for a couple of extra hours in the evening after dark has gotten my a roo a little confused. He's out there crowing away. Of course I didn't hear him all day and NOW is the time he decides to crow.

I'm glad that i'm not the only one that has mice problems. We had them so bad a few years ago that I opend a draw in a dresser that I don't use that often and found a stash of seeds that they were storing. I use snap traps and glue boards. I don't like the bate cause of the cat and the kids, and now the chicks. I have to be real cafeful where I set the traps. My cat seems to be lazy and I can't tell you the numbers of times that I have came down in the morning to have a trap gone to find it later under the table half eaten. I wish that he'd hunt them as good in the house as he does outside. I hear them in the bathroom wall and in the living room ceiling. There was one time that I called DH and said that it sounded like a racoon was in the ceiling. I remember growing up and my mom used the bate and it never failed that a while late we would smell them in the wall. GROSS. I'm sure that we will start to hear them again soon. They don't seem to be around during the summer, but as soon as it get cold the activity starts up again. There are so many holes in our house that we will be sealing them up for ever. I can't even tell you how many we have done!

Thanks Miquwid!

I've gone out a few times now to check on her, she has been moving around in there. And the second time I went to check she actually raised her head upon my entering the shed. So I know she's alert at least. I'm going to keep her to herself for a day or two and see how she does. I'm also going to keep that heat lamp over her isolation area so she stays warm. I'll try adding the ACV to her water as well.

I don't have tuna vitamins or oregano oil (I don't think I do at least) but for the leaves, do I just crush them up and add them to her food? If so, how many are a good amount for one bird?

The reason why I said tuna is because it has a high concentration of selenium which will help with the absorption of vitamins. Just a a tsp of oregano is all you need. ACV 2 TBSP for a sick bird and 1 TBSP for a healthy bird per gallon. Of course mine are eating my herbs right out of my garden along with the mint I put a screen over it so they can eat it all LOL. Hope she feels better soon.

The mice try a cat hmm don't know unless you want to use deconn. TREX traps work great! expensive but great. Keep your dog food up high and away if you plan on using poison I believe the vitamin K in it basically counteracts the poison. Something kill a mouse and left it on my running shoes for me I was not happy but at least no mice in the house. My two cats trap and the third kills.

Thanks for posting the pic of Fawn, TOB! Fawn is one I just shake my head at. I caught her with yolk on her beak maybe in the Spring, then since I couldn't find it in me to process her or find anyone to do it for me, I just returned her to the flock hoping she would have forgotten about those eggs. Now she's wearing spurs, and I caught her misbehaving while Earl was sort of mating with Butter. She and Mama were pecking butters head, then while butter was still down Fawn jumped on her back. She just stood there. Poor Butter is a huge and docile BO, one of the chicks who survived the coyote.

Does anyone know why hens grow spurs? You should see Earl's spurs. Maybe Fawn has spur envy.
She is a feisty hen you got there, not sure why it's possible both hen and roo had then thousand - million years ago but it may have caused a problem with broodiness so the hen just naturally lost them and probably now what we are seeing is a recessive gene in hens with spurs. IDK

Make sure you don't put the cotton anywhere near wires. You may have to remove the entire electrical box. If you go stuffing cotton in next to the outlets and wires, you may end up fixing the mouse problem by burning the house down.

SO we get slammed at work today and I just couldnt get out one time well. I was suppose to be out at 6pm it was 638 and I was waiting for a manager to do a punch override so I could clock out, at this point I'm worried a bit about the chooks are they okay. So I get home let the dogs out and find the cooks in their coops. I counted three times and everyone is there so I locked them up. Saturdays are rough for me and the chooks LOL

Lynzi is it Gru who seems a bit off by the light? My Rajesh isn't but we have a lot of spillage from other lights so he's use to it now. He should over time get use to it. How is he looking by the way?
