NY chicken lover!!!!

Puuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Well both chicks hatched. The one I thought was a Del is not. Both are black so I suspect a BM father. The EE of course is an EE. I can't figure out how I made the mistake with the egg I thought was a Del. Though it was a light brown egg. Could be a BM/BR cross or a BM/SLW cross.

I do have two EE's and one BM in with the Dels but there eggs are colored and none has laid in a while. I think due to the light and cold weather.

The Orps, CR's and RIR have not laid in quite some time too. They certainly are heavy though.

I've separated my main Del roo George and one hen due to being picked on. They're feathers are coming in now though.

I'm not sure what I'll do with these two chicks.

Rancher glad your DD n baby are good! I hope your sore throat is better soon. I use black tea any flavor and pure raw unfiltered honey from local bee keepers. Its my cure all lol.

In case folks don't know it. In the making of sour dough bread the femented liquid is not completely used but some is held and more added to it to keep the fermentation process going. This is so they don't have to wait for the fermentation to start all over again.

I suspect folks are doing the same thing with fermented feed ? Is that correct?

That is my plan. I am doing mine in mason jars for now. Easier to transport and I just stir it up, pour it into the strainer, strain off the fluids and save the fluids to start another batch in the same jar! So far the girls and Duane love it!

I went to nipples this year and am trying the fish tank heater. So far so good except the 100w one is too long to go across the bottom, I'm going to a 50w in each of them. Country Max is the cheapest for the heaters.

Thanks for the tip!

I do the heated water bowls for winter. Never was able to get my nipple waterers to work well, even with a bucket heater. Have already switched to the bowls. :)

Bowls? My biggest problem is my girls kicking bedding around. How do you prevent them from getting the bedding inside the bowl?

Not with the heaters I have. They stayed thawed even in the coldest weather and inside the runs. Perhaps you mean with the fish tank heaters?

Though mine are not 50 watts.

Rancher, what heater? Mind sharing your water set up? I could use some ideas.

Edit note:

I was also thinking of making a cookie tin heater like the one in the guide I found http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/11/make-cookie-tin-waterer-heater-under-10.html Have any of you made any of these or do you currently use these?
