NY chicken lover!!!!

OK NY, the snow is here.  Been snowing hard since noon.  I slipped and slid home. Not sure that I'm going to the funeral home to work.  They are not going anywhere anyway.  Be safe.
Not a chicken in sight, everyone must be hunkered down.

Snow started here around 2 but it's not coverup heavy. Enough the grass is covered but not a lot. All 8 girls are under their A frame watching it snow, sure hope they realize they need to walk in the snow to roost in the coop :/'

Its probably that cat you saw ...there feet look bigger as tracks than you expect .

Fox as well as others

You may be right and I hope so.

I haven't seen rabbit tracks so they must be hiding. I recognize the squirrel tracks.

These may be a dog. Don't look like fox. What ever it is the tracks are all over the place.

I can't see why the cat would come to the garage since there is not food.

I haven't smelled a skunk in a long time. We did have a problem with them a couple of years ago.

The egg curse is broken ! Lynzzi got hers and today I got two little brown ones - side by side. My sister BCM hens must have decided to do everything together - even their first eggs!

Both of their combs are brilliant red. Go Raven Girls GO !

Yup, it's snowing. I've determined that we must get thousands of new people moving to Syracuse in the summer since no one seems to know how to drive.

I joined the new egg club yesterday. One of the frizzles decided to lay yesterday and she actually did it in the nest box :D

No eggs yet from my frizzle Ke, hoping that whoever started laying today in the big coop helps get the ball rolling with the others. Congrats on that frizzle egg!

I think this snow is going to ruin my family's plans to come up here tomorrow.

Anyone know just how much we're supposed to get? I keep seeing different measurements.

I'm not sure how much you're supposed to get there but here it's really coming down. I drove an hour over to class, got there, and turned right back around and drove the hour back because it was getting bad and no way was I sitting in class for three hours and letting the roads get horrible and then have an hour drive home. Nope, not happening.

I used a piece of fleece over the roost to hold the heat down where the birds are. They didn't mind it being there.

That seems like a good way to keep their feet warmer during really cold snaps...

I am not featherz but they work very well. I actually use a glass bowl in the heated dog bowl for ease of dumping dirty water & cleaning the bowl. I use it for my FF as well. Also in a glass bowl.

And if you get a thermo cube and plug the heated bowl in that it shuts off at 40 degrees & doesn't turn back on till temps are below 32 degrees. I got that at Home Depot. That way its not heating the bowl when temps are above freezing

Hi armorfire,

These are great tips, thanks! What is a "thermo cube", though? I've never heard of this before. Thx.

My girls do NOT appreciate Old Man Winter making an early arrival. "Snow Birds", they are NOT!
