Looks like fun. I did see where some places got nearly 4' of snow. Not something I look forward to. I have no young'uns to shovel and clean for me.

Only having one kid, a daughter, I've always had to deal with it myself. We love snowmobiling and go as much as we can. It's clearing out the driveway that I don't enjoy.

I figured I would share a couple pics of the snow up north. I haven't been out riding yet but I do know we had 41" of snow at camp last night. The second pic is from Tug Hill today and the first was somewhere between Old Forge and Stillwater yesterday.

Wow! My kids would have a blast in all that snow! Me? Not so much! LOL

Yeah she's eating up a storm, gave her tuna for the selenium, vitamins, and yogurt with her regular feed. She was angry that I put her in the large dog crate I feel so bad she wants to be outside so bad I don't blame her but it's best for safety reasons to keep her inside tonight.

Thanks Rancher for the tip. Omg she looks pathetic inside it makes me sad. But she is looking better already and should be fine.

Well I killed one of my chicks. Not directly but its my fault. I was running late and didn't put out fresh food for them so they only had what was left over from yesterday which I don't know how much it was I just opened the pop door so they could get water while I was gone and hopefully go scrape around in barn. But alas I don't think they did and I found a barred rock under one of the low nest boxes alone dead one wing tossed back and no down under it. Not sure what happened since I see no marks on it but may have starved or it might not have wanted to go out in the wind to drink or lack of food made them fight. Tomorrow 10 of the smaller girls go in small coop big coop is way over crowded I need to post some ee's on craigslist to cut down flock I just don't want to really. Cant tell which all are roos cause I suck at it or I would post them for free I only know of one that is 100% roo he's getting huge compared to the others.

Daughters heart thing went great. We left Rochester around 6ish didn't get home till 9pm. complete stop one time on highway. Hope that is last time we have to go up there.

I noticed some black spots on the tips of the comb of my rooster tonight when I locked everyone in for the night. I hope that it won't be to bad. I'll have to keep a close eye on it. He spends most of his time during the day in teh duck hut.

check the humidity in your coop...is it too air tight ? breathing = humidity = makes frostbite .
Mine got frost bite when I closed up the coop ...coz it was cold ...Poor dude lost his points

5 ) I use neosporin (not the kind than has a pain reliever - anything with caine has a pain reliever so don't use that){{ mixed with blue food coloring }} topped of with vaseline. Chickens don't like vaseline on the beaks.

Wound Care
Saline for flushing wounds to clean them of debris. Can be applied with the large droppers you get in the infant section for dosing medication or with a large, needleless syringe. Saline can be purchased by the bottle at some pharmacies or as eyewash kits, though the eyewash kits are often more expensive and do already come with an ideal attachment for dispensing.
Vetericyn topical wound treatment labeled as safe for birds and safe for animals to lick. See the Vetericyn website and the drug label information for more information.
Neosporin topical first aid ointment for wound treatment. Can be used on eyes.
Honey - honey can be applied directly to infected wounds and covered. Honey has natural antibacterial and healing properties.
* Some have recommended Blu-Kote and use it without issue, however, the label states not to allow the animal to lick it and states that it is not for use on food producing animals. See here to read the label information. Also, it does produce blue staining.
Vet Wrap - this is a bandage that adheres to itself and is great for wrapping wounds. It is basically the same stuff as an Ace self-adhesive wrap bandage for humans but comes in a larger variety of sizes and colors and generally costs less.
Styptic powder use to stop bleeding in cases where direct pressure may not be a viable option. FLOUR - can be used as a styptic powder or you can buy styptic powder at most pet stores (they carry it for nails cut too deeply). Kwik Stop styptic powder is labeled for use on birds.
Therapeutic grade oregano oil natural general purpose antibiotic for use on external bacterial infection. Does not create resistant bacterial strains like synthetic antibiotics do. Some reports indicate it can be used internally as an effective natural antibiotic, as well. Must be therapeutic grade.

Well I'm dumb and pretty much killed another chicken last night. I noticed it had a wing hanging down so I picked it up off the floor and put it on roost inbetween some bigger girls. Today it was dead by door I think it jumped down and tried to follow me into the house like I should have taken it. This was an EE I hatched at end of sept.

I feed the chickens at 6 am today and moved the heated water bowl into the coop to make sure they get some water since they don't like going in the snow with all the heavy winds we get up here. I sat there on they're roost and just watched them for about 10 min making sure they didn't kill each other for the food. I noticed some barred rock feathers under the roosts about 3 ft from where I found the dead chick last night but don't know if pecked before or after it died.
