NY chicken lover!!!!

This video is for Rancher, Jlaw, Stony, County and all the other chicken men out there!

I was talking to my mother this morning and she told me an aquaintance of hers was out hunting with her dh and they shot a mountain lion. They tagged it and called the dec, who promptly said there are no mountain lions in NYS. They told them they had just killed one and put a tag on it. Guess the dec officer booked on over to confirm. Apparently another one has been sighted behind the same couples house. They live out near Malone in a fairly secluded swampy area. I do believe that these big cats could quite easily inhabit nys as there are enough desolate areas for them to survive in.

Got two inches of snow. Got yelled at by the terrorists for the evil white stuff in their run. I opened the door to their coop to let some air in and a couple barred rocks have ventured out. Bill is busy calling them back in. Filled feeders. Made cookies and bread. A good day off!
We drove out to our Summer Cottage today. It was a beautiful drive...but COLD.
We were driving around the Lake and we saw a FOX walking along the side of the shore
across the Lake. The Lake is not completely frozen over. What a site. Aria

Just found this pile of dirt/rocks under my rabbit hutch in the chicken yard. Mice? Or Chipmunks? Seems to be a really big pile for a mouse...

Looks to big for a meece or even Chip and Dale. Unless it's smaller than I see. I'd say, skunk or rabbit. I have a rabbit under my coop, but I don't bother them and they don't bother the chickens.

Throw everything back under there and see what happens.

Thats what I'm thinking....I raked up all the rocks/dirt back into the hole - that hole has got to be deep because a majority of the pile went back down it. I DO think it's chipmunks because I found another hole outside of the chicken yard right under my hydrangea plant. Must go underground to that spot.

I've seen large foot prints out back again but it may just be the cat I saw. Rabbits and squirrels too.

Now I recently was reading a post of someone in TX who was using heat in their coop and had a lot of sick birds, wanting to know what was wrong. Rest assured the cold is most likely be the last thing that will make your birds sick. The humidity from added heat will definitely do it. Your birds exhale a great deal of heat and moist air. This is why you want air vents near the TOP of your coop. Hot air rises and with it that moisture. Cross winds will draw it off and away. It's all very scientific.

This is what I thought so I just leave my coops un heated and lots of ventilation.

Snow what snow? Lol i had to plow my drive with the back bumper of my car lastnight. Had to move feed back into coop. They wouldnt go eat and it was getting covered in snow fast. I left the heated dog bowl right outside the pop door though.

Why is it i see stuff in rochester i want all the time but when i come up here for my daughters surgries there is never anything good on craigslist.

Daughter getting last hole in heart closed up today. Just got told almost done and doing good. Love that they can do it through veins and such.

Well you want something I can always get it for you and we can meet up and you can get it then. I'm glad your daughter is almost done with the surgeries.

Well I candled today and it's not looking so so great. The only eggs I can see veins in are Stella's, my Lav Orp.

One of them looks funky though, like there are two "blood spots" ?? I'll try to take a pic. I don't think that one will go anywhere and will quit soon if it hasn't already. The Buff Eggs and BR eggs are still a little difficult to tell so I'll check those again in the next couple of days. The silkie eggs look like they have nothing at all going on inside them. Which is a bummer because those were really the only ones I cared about most. But again, I'll check them out in the next few days or so.

I hope it turns out well for your, when you say two blood spots are they near each other?

Rough day for this one, well a night inside should do the trick no big wound but blood dripping blood everywhere. She was white but is now pink. She's eating and drinking and acting like it never happened so If she ain't worried then I ain't worried. looks like it could be small cut saw some blood transfer on two other hens, so I wonder if there was a fight over nest boxes I mean there is plenty they just choose not to use them.

A week old in their new brooder. I want to build a permanent brooder soon.

If you wait until you have a thin coat of snow, you could see tracks, maybe, and get a better idea.
That is a big hole. If it is wild rabbits, couldn't they be a problem for your domesticated ones? I had a rabbit once that got Snuffles, which was sort of a rabbit plague...

I figured I would share a couple pics of the snow up north. I haven't been out riding yet but I do know we had 41" of snow at camp last night. The second pic is from Tug Hill today and the first was somewhere between Old Forge and Stillwater yesterday.

If you haven't any Blue kote I suggest you get some and spray her good. Cover her eyes of course. I think there are lots of blood vessels in the comb and one peck can get things started. Keep us posted on her progress.

Looks like fun. I did see where some places got nearly 4' of snow. Not something I look forward to. I have no young'uns to shovel and clean for me.
