Jlaw -- I don't think I would trade for your dog, cat, or bunny. I still have plenty of my own.

I don't think I will get another dog until after my 2 indoor dogs are gone. My beagle is depressed over the loss of my shepherd last week. I tell her I know exactly how she feels.

Crazy4chicks-- I will have BLRW, project frizzle NN OE, golden cuckoo maran, mixed color leghorns (if the roo is doing anything), Delaware, and mixes after we fully separate pens. DH told me he doesn't want to do that until after the holidays because we have been so busy.


I was thinking I would like to get a black orpington hen or 2 if anyone has any or will have any available.

Sorry bout your dogs. I do have a shepard mix rescued dog. hint hint wink wink. As of now I have put in for me for vacation and told wife to put in for it if not it will be me with two kids.

I'm sorry When one of our dogs passed away she luckily passed away in her sleep at home but our great pyr mix was depressed for weeks. He would mope around, not get excited about anything anymore, just lay by the door waiting for her to come in. It was one of the saddest things to see. These were two dogs who didn't even like each other

she was old and grumpy and he was 1 and would constantly make her angry...It will get better...

It's so warm and rainy and gross here...blah my one coop is soaking wet, I think I may have to take all the DL out and start over again. I'm going to take out half and dump a bunch of fresh shavings and DE in and hope it corrects itself. I don't even know how it got that way except for humidity and the hens walking in and out with muddy feet.

The other coop is perfectly dry and comfortable...it may also have something to do with the fact that there are 20 hens in the one coop and only 10 in the other. I think the next big snow will mean it's time to play musical coops and balance them out.

The chickens are at least loving the warm weather, they are outside flying around and running around. I did have to break up a rooster fight this morning between my Welsummer and BO...nothing bad but I did have to get a shovel between the two of them and direct them back to their respective parts of the run. They usually get along but once in awhile...ugh

I think Ron the BBS Orp roo I had from Annie went to a black Orp breeder. I'll see if Matt can get the info on it. I still have the blue and black hen, they are wonderful.

Morning all. Took a while to get through all your pages. Its rainy here with lots of meltage and very warm. So glad I cleaned out the coops before this. The humidity is quite high. My poor mother in the north country is getting hammered with ice. Lots of it. Trees breaking and power outages. I hope those of you up there stay safe. Have to finish baking and cleaning today. Delivering cookies tomorrow at work. It was crazy busy yesterday and people are not nice either. I like my chickens better. I had to buy eggs as I am barely getting enough now to fill customer orders. I felt funny buying eggs. Judging from the way my daughters are downing the venison jerky I just made, I guess it came out pretty good. It smelled good. Time to get moving and get stuff done. Have a good day everyone.

Morning all. Most of the snow is gone, I have an ocean in my yard from all the rain & the temps are dropping. Anyone want to ice skate?

My DL was damp from all the rain but I never take it out. Just piled it into a pile in the coop, dumped in some leaves and threw some scratch on it and the girls distributed & mixed it up. It's better in there now. I do know next year I need to bag more leaves. It's breaking down so fast when they are in the coop so much with the snow.

I moved their a frame structure closer to the coop so maybe I can convince them to go under it when it's snowing to get them out of the coop some. I am happy to see them out now digging thru the leaves. Stella of course decided to sit on the gate while I was out with the dogs, luckily the dogs didn't notice and I got them in and went back out to her walking up to the porch. She followed me back into the hen area and I threw some scratch down to hopefully keep her occupied lol
