NY chicken lover!!!!

I'll be looking for NN eggs in the spring if anyone has any. :) As for me, I always have mutt eggs - my EE or NN roo with assorted girls (leghorn/EE/NN/etc). Just in case anyone needs any for a school hatch or a test run. :)

Girls were enjoying a rain free morning running around and flapping their wings. Stella decided she needed to be on the other side. After walking her back in 3 times I gave up and told her if she will be joint us for Christmas dinner is she doesn't get back where she belongs. It didn't faze her at all and she convinced Sophie to join her. At least they stay right in that area since they are really big scaredy hens but act like naughty toddlers. :D

rain has started up again.....my poor sump pump is not happy

Where in the north country if you don't mind me asking? I have to travel up that way and I'm debating when to go...
She lives just outside Gouverneur. She just finished pounding an inch of ice off her back deck so her dog could get out to pee. Everything is locked down up there. No traveling because the ice is so bad and a lot of power outages. The longterm forecast is for single digits with possibility of snow. Hope that helps. She lives on a major highway and the only ones going by are the sanders and they are having a hard time.

not rainy on long island, damp but that's it. cut up the last of the pumpkins and watched the chickens devour the seeds. they'll eat the rest over a couple of days. apparently they think the seeds are oreo cookies!

That does help, thanks. I think tomorrow morning we will attempt to get up there. We generally drive right through Gouverneur to go to Ottawa so it will be interesting.

So good news and bad news today...bad news is one of my Americauna hens is missing...there are some feathers laying around and no tracks so I'm thinking some sort of bird snatched her though she was a little big so it may have had to be a fox or something. This is a hen that always wandered away from everyone so I'm not too surprised but it's sad

The good news is I figured out why I've been getting a lower number of eggs recently...I counted 16 guh

maybe more but I didn't want to crawl under there.

Well raining here AND I LOVE IT!!! No snow makes a win for me lol. I cleaned out my small coop I had turkeys in. I think you could toilet train them they had so much poo under on spot of roost they both had to go there. I think they knew they messed with chickens too much and they wasn't getting out till thanksgiving.

Well since I'm not doing feed in side the coop I broke down and built something to keep it from getting water logged. Even though it's already fermented didn't want them drinking it. I just took a piece of ply wood and a pallet and made a little triangle attached to side of coop. Got the food of ground and a dry spot to eat and only 3 screws. Easiest thing I've done yet to coop lol.

Well my light Sussex is going through a molt I think. The nest box she sleeps in is covered with her feathers. Eather that or she wants me to put more hay in.

Well off to get ready for work what fun.

Don't you just hate it? I've stepped on one or two now and then buried in the shavings on the coop floor.

Please allow some venting. I AM SICK OF THIS RAIN. I AM SICK OF THE WATER. I AM SICK OF THE SEPTIC NOT FUNCTIONING WELL.

I sat in church this am thinking of Alabama where is must be warmer and drier than here. I am considering dumping all the chickens, so I can save money and every three or four months take a trip south.

I AM SICK OF THE PRESSURE FOR EGGS! DW got mad cuz she took money for three dozen and I didn't have them. Also folks who are regulars too. DW co worker's husband won't eat store bought eggs. I have a friend who CAN'T eat store bought eggs and another who said don't get rid of your chickens, if you need to raise the price.

I got flogged by that blasted BM roos yesterday and it hurt. I had to control myself to keep from wringing his neck and wasting a good chicken dinner. I tell you he will be the first to go when I start processing them myself.

Well I'm off to take a nap. I hate going out back to collect eggs cuz it's so darn wet. There are puddles everywhere and deep ones too. Ducks would love it here.

Oh eggs pipping on day 20 again and none are the BR eggs I bought. One EE and one Del have started. I do hope more hatch or I'll be bummed.

ta, ta, for now,

Ran-zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

My flock is enjoying the warm snow free weather too. I kept them in on Friday so they could grieve Phoebe, but Saturday there wasn't a speck of snow, and they flew out of the coop the way they were doing in the summer. They got soaking wet, but didn't seem to care and were eating all sorts of stuff, I don't want to know what they were finding.

The new vent covers cut down the air exchange and it feels moister and there is a bit of an odor...so have been adding shavings like mad. The odor is getting fainter, but ill have to beg for some sawdust/planer shavings from DH, or plunk down more money at the feed store. I think the jury is still out on these vent covers. What I would like to try is the ones DH would make me to go on the outside. The slats would be angled down to keep snow and rain out, but I think it would be a little more open than these wimpy ones Im using. Then I'd just put hardware cloth inside and call it good.
