As far as Eggs go...Sometimes ... it seems to be feast or famine ...remember when you had too many + couldnt give them away ?

Whats a buckler ? in your signature
A buckler (French bouclier 'shield', from Old French bocle, boucle 'boss') is a small shield, 15 to 45 cm (6 in to 18 in) in diameter,[citation needed] gripped in the fist. It was generally used as a companion weapon in hand-to-hand combat during the Medieval and Renaissance periods. Its size made it poor protection against missile weapons (e.g., arrows) but useful in deflecting the blow of an opponent's sword or mace.
2 Samuel 22 :31 - here is more recent translation
The way of the true God is perfect;+
The saying of LORD is refined.+
He is a shield to all those taking refuge in him.+

Well, my dog just half killed an opossum for me. I was out tending to the little birds in my workshop and the dog goes tearing off into the woods. I ignore him, do my business with the babies, come back out, and there's an opossum staring at me on the path. I walked away, did stuff in the coop, came back, and he was lying on the ground. So I picked him up by his tail, tossed him in a cage, and there he will stay until morning when I can decide what to do with him - if he's not already dead. He was in rough shape. The dog obviously had grabbed him right in the middle and shook him pretty good. He had a bunch of puncture wounds.

Oh, featherz, a while ago you had posted a link here to show what you bought to make your automatic doors. You wouldn't still have the link would you? I think I want to go the automatic door route.

Hiya vmd,

I've been crazy busy and missing significant chunks of time on here. Trying to catch up on at least 6 or 7 pages tonight, and I'm glad I caught your post above. I am satisfied with my flock of 7 right now, but when and if I consider an addition, Buckeyes are definitely among the top breeds of interest. Thanks for reminding me it was you who had the buckeyes. I'd love to see some photo's when and if you get a little time. Meanwhile, thanks for the useful info on the breed; this is helpful.

Photos? I know most people find that easy, I however, find that it takes me all day!! I will try however, after Xmas.......

Morning all. Raining again, all night too. I have a small pond out back. Gave me a chance to test my new boots, which worked wonderfully! The hen I have downstairs looks better this morning. She has more color in her face now and when I picked her up she kicked with both legs. I will leave her in for another couple of days. Gave her plenty of food and water and picked out the wet litter and put in dry.

off to the pharm

Good news this morning! The hen that I thought was dead was standing outside the coop this morning sqwaking away at me...idiot. I have a feeling she's broody and trying to sit on eggs somewhere...ugh.
Still Merry Christmas to me!

Morning all,
Candled my lone Orp egg this morning and it's still doing really well! Lockdown is in 3 more days. I guess raising the humidity helped. Just wish I had more than one in there. Owell, I still have the smallest EE chick I can place it with. The little one she threw in for free. It had that spraddle/slayed leg thing going on but she's 100% fixed now! That one actually turned out to be my favorite. It's a yellow chick with just few black spots on it here and there. I wonder if they'll stay...

I'm going to attempt to clean the duck house today. Not sure how far I'll get. Last time I tried I couldn't because everything was frozen in there. Hoping the last two days of 60+ degree weather was enough to thaw it out so I can shovel it out. It's disgusting. I'm contemplating removing the floor/tray all together and just throwing a bunch of hay in there on the ground. Then when I go to clean all I have to do is tip the house and rake it.

Just talked to my cousin who lives just outside of Watertown...They have 2 inches of ice and no power.

It was 60 here today. This afternoon went to my Moms for my family christmas party and it was 38 there. This weather is crazy. I was out with the chckens this morning in a tee-shirt. Last week I was an eskimo!

Traps are set. Hopefully there will be something in them tomorrow morning! I know that it might take a little bit, but I want it over soon. Looking at building a new duck hut. Craig won't go in the old one. They used to go in at dark without a problem, now he doesn't want anything to do with it. I can't say that I blame him. I wouldn't want to go in a place where my buddy was killed. I just need to get something done soon. I don't like chasing him around at night so I can pick him up to get him into the chicken coop and I really don't want to leave him out

Move the coop or make a noticeable change. Clean it out real good and perhaps add a different type of bedding.

The KJV translates Strongs H4043 in the following manner: shield (48x), buckler (9x),armed (2x), defence (2x), rulers (1x), scales (with H650) (1x).

Ugh I know it's awful. I'm still thinking I should take a bunch of bedding out today and replace it so when it does start freezing again the inside of the coop doesn't freeze as well. It's terrible. I hope your egg hatches! I'm starting to get the hatching bug...uh oh
