NY chicken lover!!!!

yeah I just wrote an article on ...heck a few I think on the self centered , selfish, rude etc etc etc general public. I am not afraid to report...I do not like people as a rule

.
Haha yeah I'll admit I'm 24, my generation is a big part of the problem but it just amazes me the things that people do. Nobody tries to help anyone anymore, they only fend for themselves. I'm not a people person either, I would rather stay home with my animals then be with people.

AQHA - I'm with you .... I'm also pretty much done with society in general. I come here for my only social peace - and isn't that sad?

I volunteer my time representing my town to the county, I volunteer on the planning commission - and all I am getting from a few wealthy landowners is not discourse, but mob mentally about our zoning. And I am the one barely able to pay my bills - they are the ones complaining their property MAY lose some value - when they have thousands of acres !!!! Do they ever show up to help or do homework or figure out definitions or anything ? No. Do they know what civics is ? You know, when we all sacrifice a little and the whole community is enriched ?

I'm done sacrificing. I'm done giving and just not getting anything at all back. Blah on them all - this is a 2013 christmas for sure - a black year.

I shall only help others who are giving at the same or more level as I do. Takers and freeloaders can fend for themselves.

Sorry it sounds so negative, I am actually in love with my place, my new chickens, my horses and dogs and husband (not in that order!)

but the balance has been draining me for too long. I'm closing the gates and buying some bullets for when the takers have taken everyone else and start to go after the people who actually work and produce.

All I want for christmas is a box of .243 shells
Agreed. It doesn't sound negative at all, it's reality.

my wife and I were talking about this the other day. Most of society under 40 fits this. Self centered, rude etc. I'm 46 and get along better with the greatest generation than I do my own

Well I cleaned the big coop out and man was it wet. I know I've had water get in and snow and over populated birds in there and 2 turkeys. But I think the wood is weeping though so going to go with some linoleum this summer.

I kicked two chickens out of nest boxes tonight for some reason one of my reds desided she wanted to start sleeping in there also. When I pulled the light Sussex out she smelled and looked dirty on rear so I checked her out making sure she was clear to poo. And she has LIce!! So I got poultry dust out and hit all the girls that are laying with it around vent. Tomorrow I will hit all the chickens with some around wings vent and necks/backs they aint going to be happy already have a lot mad at me.

So I need to build a good sized dust bath for them to use in winter to help control these. From what I read lice is soft body and the dirt breaks into they're skin killing them. I wonder if this lice out break has to do with my lack of eggs seems I only get 1-2 eggs a day and I think only 3-4 birds I didn't see any on them around vent area.

So I spoke too soon about my hen that showed up this morning. I guess she has a nest she's hiding somewhere because she didn't come back tonight. Best case scenario is she shows up with chicks in a couple weeks, worst is she never comes back. I'm hoping she comes back again tomorrow or Christmas day and I can grab her and put her in a crate. I'm very frustrated...

I had a BR hen who wasn't coming in at night, but it was due to being picked on in the coop. Yours may have eggs and I hope she does, but if you can catch her you might consider another coop or place that she can't get out, before something gets her.

Then there was the BR hen who would stay in the run and not go in the coop. I kept tossing her in only to find her dead one am. I think the roo did it. He was mean as heck. Though they were all raised together and came from the same place.

Lynzi - I am sorry about your frizzle. I can't say why these things happen.

So far no new chicks. I am not hopeful. I'd have been happy with the two BR chicks IF they were both BR's and one was a roo, but the one BR that did hatch is tiny. As I said the other is definitely NOT a BR.

The Del chick is large and named Minnie Mouse by the queen. I'd much rather it be a Mickey though. The last Del roo I hatched is a wienie and can not stay.

I just have to complain today, sorry guys.

I went to tractor supply after work to pick up some dog and chicken food. Usually I don't like to go there for my chicken food but my regular feed place is closed. Anyway I grabbed a couple bags of chicken feed, a bag of BOSS and a big bag of dog food, all over 50lbs. So I got to checkout and of course the dog food is on the bottom and the stupid barcode is on the bottom of that bag. So I have to lift the chicken food, BOSS and then the dog food off the cart to get to the UPC. Well here I am, I'm a 5'3" girl in heels and dress clothes coming from work having to lift all these bags off the cart and then put them back on and there are 5 guys in line behind me watching me struggle and not one of them even offered to help or hold the cart still

Now I'm all about doing things on my own and what not, but really nobody even offered?!?! They would rather stand there and watch me struggle with these stupid bags.

Sorry I'm done...

I shop TSC alot and I have them load my stuff for me. They're very nice. You should have asked for help.

As for the guys? I have gotten some nasty looks from women when I hold the door or offer to help. You just don't know how a woman will respond to a man offering to help. Blame your sisters, not us.

My motto is, (okay one of my mottoes is) " Animals are people too and vice versa."

Guys now days are afraid to help ...even if you look like you need it .. I think everyone is worse this time of year
In that situation
I OPEN MY BIG MOUTH...and ask someone to help me
When I was younger I could load it myself ...Now I cant ...At TSC - I ask someone to put it on my cart & also take it out to my car
That loose hen is either very smart or very stupid I cant decide which ..I hope you catch her

Well one of the yellow chicks had flown right out of the brooder and was looking for way to get back in. I'm lucky my cat has no interest whatsoever in these things! They are in one of those large rectangular rubbermaid bins. The sides have to be at least a foot tall, if not taller. Guess I better make a screen top out of the lid it came with.

thats probably a roo.that jumps into the dish ..LOL
I covered mine with a the original bin lid ...loosely . If they are in the house ...they dont need a lamp at night ..
And they settle down when you cover them ..& go to sleep ..

Food for thought - The 2 chickens that died were in the shed ? Is there a smell in there ?
Like chemicals ? or oil or anything ..? Could there be something toxic in there they are breathing in ?

Blame "sisters"? Blame just plain rudeness. Whether it was the cashier not helping or requesting assistance or the inconsiderate people behind her, male or female. You comment is offensive.
