The expectations that Glasshen mentioned actually go both ways - I am biased in that manner also. I would expect someone stronger and in better shape than I am to offer help if they see me struggle .... I've done in TCS stores and once out hand shoveling a drive in a new city when it got hit by 4 feet of snow and I would shovel & plop back in a snow bank to catch my breath and go on ... and trucks with plows and neighbors with blowers never even ask if I would even pay them for help. Being too shy back then, I never asked. I know I was not looking like I wanted to do it myself ! ha ha ha scraggly hair and desperate face, but my expectation was they should offer. I have no idea what their expectations (if any were). Today I would march over and ask for help.

I have no doubt that even an older dude like rancher, would help in a heartbeat if I asked with a smile, but he may not even think to move to help otherwise.

His comments ? Well, some is valid - I often think something similar of christians ... why are they so mean? Then I realize it is not all christians. Then I wonder why others don't police the "mean" christians, and then I realize how useless that would be - it can't be done. Same with mean men and men-hating women .... stereotypes are there for a reason; but can NEVER be used once we get into a one on one situation - on those occasions it all has to come down to an individual and their character and merit. I can't make all women act respectful and not assume a guy is being sexist if he offers help. So I police myself.

I judge everyone here of high merit.

Morning all! Merry Christmas to all! It was 15 here this morning and we had some snow last night so its a white christmas. Of course I was the first one up and let the cheeps out. They are mad about the snow but I think they will forgive me when they get some christmas dinner. My hen seems a little better today. May everyone have a wonderful day with family and friends.

For those of you who have to go out like Rancher & walk from coop to coop in the snow, I have to go out & bring hay & grain to to fields with horses, and we use one of those 5 ft long narrow plastic sleds. They slide very easily, even with ruts in the ground. I think it would work better than a wagon. Even on wet grass it works.

If I keep some of my chickens, I will hope for a Garden Riding Tractor so I can pull my sled/cart or what ever and "ride" out to the coops.

Unfortunately I have more plans than money.

Did I post the pic of the Gianormus marans egg. Definitely a double yolker. Personally I don't want to encourage such eggs cuz I believe they can lead to prolapse. The second largest egg is a Delaware egg.

No mean spirit intended, only good will with the intent that whatever pain was caused by the "women's liberation movement" or the whatever the high school girls did that was "not very encouraging" (post29948) did to you could be healed. Frankly,I am totally confused when you say ""Some" men, not feeling they need to treat women as dainty, need to be cared for things is one of them " And as for respect goes, your comment,about women(post #29934 )was disrespectful toward women(sisters). You want respect, yet it was not given. You may make any comment that you choose and "see things" any way you like. I do not care whether you respect my thoughts, ideas or whatever. What is needed is to act and speak respectfully . That is the missing ingredient. As long as women are disparaged, it will be offensive.

Please I was only trying to EXPLAIN why SOME men may not feel the need to assist a woman these days. I am not damaged nor scarred by the high school girls. I just no longer feel the need to hold the door for the ladies. Though on occasion I can't help my upbringing and do so.

I told DW what had transpired here and she completely got it. I sometimes forget that the young ladies here, (those 40 and below) may not be aware of the Womens Liberation Movement and all that it was about. Or about the Bra burning. ( I tried to avoid the word for the sake of modesty). Women were making the statement that they didn't need men to treat them differently and with special consideration. Our culture has changed from when I was a boy. Girls did not call boys. Now it's okay for a woman to offer to buy a man a drink, ask him out and pick up the check. Not so when I was young.

My generation saw many Marches, Sit Ins and Movements for change. I don't believe any woman should be offended to be called a Sister to all women. If not for the "sisterhood", women would not have many of the rights they have today. I see nothing disrepectful or offensive about being part of the sisterhood.

The poster pined that the men in the line did not assist her. Our culture has changed and I merely stated that perhaps it was the Women's Liberation Movement, the sisterhood, of the 60's that MAY be the reason men don't feel they have to step in. It's sad but true.

Now there MAY be some women who don't mind a man's assistance but there are others who do. How are we to know which is which? Women today are equal to men and there is nothing wrong with that. Being called sisters of other women of today and to women of the past is not something to be offended by. IMO.

I thought of doing that for hunting getting a nice bright orange sled and pull deer out on that. Also give me a nice dry spot to sleep when I don't feel like hunting just feel like being in the woods lol.

Well it might be mean but I kicked all my chickens out of big coop just now. I figured they need to get use to the snow seeing when I throw scratch they try to fly to where ever I throw it so they don't have to touch the maybe 1inch of snow that is down where I snow blew. I swear I have the biggest babies ever. I'll only keep them out there for about 45-60 min. There are spots to get out of wind which for once we really don't have any so no reason to be in coop all day.

I thought my wifes bantam was going to land on a hen so she didn't have to be in the snow but she fell short by like 1-2 inches. I had to chase the lazy fat bird out of the coop I swear this bird has no brains. It's my nest sleeper that use to sleep under the roosts. I throw scratch by her after getting her out and she just stands by the coop like I'm going to open the pop door back up.
