NY chicken lover!!!!

No one has any recommendations as far as my mouse infested brooder goes? Does that mean its safe to use now that it's mouse free?? I wanted to put them in there tomorrow.

I would clean it with a little bleach water. I use plastic bins and spray and wipe them down with a disinfectant. Then turn on your lights to let it dry out.

I didn't see too much IN the brooder, I mean I'm sure it's there. But it's almost as if they were using my items in there as "litter boxes" I had an old pitcher and a glass food dish in there that had a lot of their droppings in them. I threw them right in the trash. Come to think of it... my trash company STILL has not showed up today...whats the deal Feher?!?

I think it should be ok.

We had the same trash service. They're horrible. The guy usually picks the bags out of the can instead of dumping it. There's just 2 of us, it isn't heavy. Last week he took 1 bag out and left the other in there. We've had trashcans busted up and they come when they get around to it. I have to have my can out there by 8am, at least pick it up at a reasonable time. I've seen them here at 9pm before. End rant

Last week they didn't come until Friday because a Wednesday was NY Day and Thursday they pulled trucks off the road because of the weather. They are usually here by 10am the latest every Wednesday. For them not to be here yet is weird. The whole road wasn't picked up today.

It a weekly thing on our road. They never come early. 10am is unheard of. Trash day is today for us too, it's still out there and probably will be for another hour or so.

Lynzi - I agree with the others. If there is some on the bottom that is froze then I'd take a bucket of hot water and start pouring some on it a little at a time scraping it as you go. Once all is done, I'd wipe it down with bleach or at the least take a bucket of wateh with bleach and throw it in then put your light in it to dry out. Mice carry all sorts of stuff. I wouldn't chance it. good luck

Once all is done, I'd wipe it down with bleach or at the least take a bucket of wateh with bleach and throw it in then put your light in it to dry out. Mice carry all sorts of stuff. I'll have to try that tomorrow. Maybe I'll boil a pot of water on the stove and then pour in right before I scrape. I sprayed it with a bleach solution a few minutes ago but didn't think to pour hot water in to be able to scrape. I'll spend more time with it tomorrow.

I'd wear rubber gloves..I'm crazy about those sort of things..then after I was my hands and dry, then use hand sani...then lotion...I've been there before an it grosses me out every time..

It's weird that mice and rats skeeve me out so much, but some other grose things don't bother me at all...oh and maggots..I want to puke with those

And on a better note I was talking to dh today about things and he brought up me getting some more chickens and ducks...and he didn't say no!

..Doesn't mean that he said yes either, but he didn't say no!!!

I'm just lazy enough to wait til Saturday, when it is 40 degrees, to finish the clean up. (It's only 2 days away) I carry enough water in the winter just to keep them alive, carrying more to clean the place would put me over the edge.

Edited to add: That tall ice chopper we all have by our back door to keep the steps clear of ice in this weather makes a WONDERFUL poop remover. Wait for the thaw and slide that baby under the poop and pop it off the floor.
