I will be there whether ya'll want me there or not lol. I plan on bringing my son and daughter and maybe wife if she don't have to work. Any idea if we are going to make a thread about it or keep it to the NY thread? I know they are busy with a baby so I don't want to bug them too much.
I was thinking a new thread so we can keep track of who has what birds/hatching eggs to trade or sell. Also what other items people might bring to trade or sell. I know I will bring chicks/eggs if people want ee's/spare buff silkie roos. Also I want to try and get an order ready for aarron's farm so I can get some birds or eggs for people if they want. I know its a pain to get birds/eggs so figure try to help out if I can. I know rancher wants some nice cuckoo silkie hatching eggs
. Also I can probably bring any type of juice people may want since I work in a juice factory.
Sorry I know its still early I just hate last minute planning. Now the actual doing of stuff I don't mind procrastinating till last minute lol.
Last 2 times we got together we did start another thread for exactly the reasons you state....that is up to Tab and Travis, however....I am going to "assume" some things to help you with your planning. I am assuming that things are going to be similiar or exactly the same as the last 2 times, with the last gathering actually being at Tab's and Travis's.....
There are hotels close to them.
The actual picnic covered one meal, however some people where there early and I assume ate food they brought with them before I got there.
Everyone brings a dish to share.
If you want meat, you can bring meat....more about food available when people start really planning on what to bring.
Many brought their own drink. Some brought drink to share. (I brought a case of water, others brought other individual servings of things to keep the litter to a minimum)
Several brought something to share for the meal and for dessert too. Some brought munchies to share
Children are weclome.
Attire was casual
Chairs were limited, bring your own
All extra tables brought were put to use
There was a chinese auction at both gatherings, with the proceeds going to the host family. (Both host families went WAY above and beyond and deserved every cent we earned with the auction)
For that reason, people are encouraged to bring things to donate to the auction, but no one is banned from participation if they bring nothing except cash to buy tickets to try and win one or more of the items. (We have had everything from Avon products to full grown Roosters donated to the auction and only ONE item ever went unclaimed....so there is interest in just about anything you can think of....with wine being a HUGE hit amoung the ladies and Beer being coveted by the men. Sorry guys, I won it. It wasn't as yummy as I thought it would be)
We have considered have a separate auction for the children. Once we see how many children are actually coming I am sure that will be discussed again. (My 2 cents? I think it is a wonderful idea and would get separate colored tickets for the kids....would price them cheaper so the sllightly older children can buy them with their own money. I saw one family spend $40 to have enough tickets for their family's demand....that's a little steep in my mind)
Edited to add: Things/birds you prearrange to buy from others can be picked up/delivered at the picnic. All animals/birds need to be properly caged. (I still can't figure out how they caught that one that got loose last time)
Items for the auction don't have to be brand new...gently used items are welcome. (you know that waterer you used for 2 days and hated might be just the ticket for someone else's brooder set up)
