NY chicken lover!!!!

Oh wise ones

, we have a ? for you. We are concerned that perhaps all 3 of our chicks could be male. If that happens, can they grow up together, like those gay penguins Roy and Silo
hugs.gif
? We really don't want to get rid of any of them, they watch tv with us, sing, and dance with us.
ya.gif
Would 3 male birds be "out" or would they hide in the closet?

What if only 1 is a hen? What happens with the other 2, because they all hatched and grew up together? Would they all just love each other?
love.gif
Or would it cause fighting?
somad.gif
Or make the males confused?
idunno.gif
Would they be sad?

Is there a chicken whisperer in NY?

Any thoughts?

Can you leave them together? Sure but it doesn't always work out. I keep 5 bantam cochin roo's together and 3 Barnevelder roo's together. The cochins tend to fight more than anyone else. The Barnevelders are known for being good with multiple roo's.
Only time will tell with yours.

IF two are roos and one is a hen, keep in mind you may want to add a few more hens. Otherwise your one hen is going take quite the beating from those two roos when they start mating with her. If all three are males I'm not sure how that would work since there would be no female to fight over, they may get along...who knows.

Candled my silkie eggs last night that I had shipped from OH. Looks like only 2 out of 10 are developing, which is fine with me IF those two make it to the end and actually hatch! They looked pretty good for only being on day 4. I'll check them out a week from now and see how they are doing. I left the rest for now just in case but they looked pretty clear of any development. And 2 of the 10 had detached air cells that never reattached so those are pretty much goners. No development there. So fingers crossed for these two

Good luck with those eggs. I'm sitting on 3-4 clears out of 16 eggs. One is real porous so its hard to tell if there are veins or not. We saw movement yesterday. Only problem is I have 21 EE's I need to get rid of still up stairs.

It's really wait and see.

I have an EE and a Aruacana together now. But for a while there I have them and two black orps together. Before that I had two blak orps and a c rock together. They pretty much do what they want. All with a bunch of hens of various breeds.

They may be fine.

TY for the advice! I think the little tiny silkie is the hen. The frizzle and straight sizzle seem to act like roos. When startled the silkie hides behind them, they look around with their necks outstretched. We thought maybe they do this because they are different breeds, Cochin mix as opposed to pure silkie. The big frizzle keeps pecking the smaller smooth sizzle on the head, but it's always done that, since the big frizzle helped get the smooth out of it's shell. We are hoping they all get along! We'll just give it more time and see what happens! Thanks for the advice!

I have 11 hens and 6 roos in my big hoop coop - they are ok - BUT the roos do have small squabbles - it will only get worse as they all hit the one year mark ..... In the spring, summer and fall - they have so much room it doesn't matter. They stay out of each other's way. I am also adding hens to the mix - and that evens out the squabbling. Basically I would like 7-10 more hens. The make up of this high a # of roos included 2 SWEET millie roos who just don't fight, and 2 younger Marans roos who are just coming into full rooster-hood. I plan to do some serious separation as soon as I can get them into their spring coop and net wire run.

I also have a pen of just roosters (headed for freezer camp) and they get along with no squabbles at all - once they established who was top roo - the three of them really never have an issue at all ... If I added a hen or two in there they certainly would.

So basically - my input on this is - all roos should work out great. Otherwise, it will depend on the rooster temperment and if one is content to play submissive - some do and are fine with it their whole lives - other like to keep challenging until head rooster has had enough and they fight to the death.

I had to share this, I would laugh every time I heard it crow.

Ke5hde, why aren't your barnies working out? Mine are the only ones laying right now.
