NY chicken lover!!!!

My teenie hens eggs are - small . I dont normally sell them ..( I eat 2 for breakfast when I have them ..) they are almost 1/2 the size of my RIR & sexlinks ..eggs
I dont know Stonys eggs may be bigger ? as Cass said his chickens are bigger than ours

Lynzi - egg question

I have noticed with my hens ...Hens eggs lighten as they age . the 2 darker brown ones are from the newer layers ..
I think their pigment supply runs out some as they age ..but they get bigger
That's not too bad on egg size if they lay about the same. I was looking for good laying bantams and one person posted something they like to say about bantams and they're eggs. "I get 1/2 the egg for 1/4 the feed."

Well I'm trashing all my large eggs from the incubator. I can't believe this, not a single one developed. 2 had blood rings. Why?!? I'm down to 2 silkie eggs in the Brinsea.

Edited to Add: I just checked the yolks again the other day with the last three eggs I got from the Buff and BR before sending them off with Payner and they all had the little bullseye mark on them.

Here is one of the larger eggs with the blood/circle vein:

These are the two Silkie eggs

I see an eye or beak in that first silkie egg!!!

Have you seen the White Faced Spanish chickens? Those are pretty cool looking.

Wow, I think that's one sharp looking dude chicken! Very cool.

About the eggs / color .... I can usually tell who laid which eggs, because I have assorted breeds. The lightest belongs to my Coronation Sussex. Hers is so light -- just barely beige (sounds like a panty hose color)! As you'd figure, the Marans hen lays the darkest, so pretty. And my Delaware lays an almost pink color. I love the looks of her egg shell. Then there's the Columbian Rock, and her eggs are sort of a pinky-beige, too, but not so "pink" as the Dels. The Lavender Orp's are the largest, so easy to tell that way, but in terms of the color, hers is usually a nice light brown.

The only "real" Sumatra's are the large foul. A large foul rooster will weigh about 5 lbs max. A large foul hen about 4 lbs. Much smaller than my RIR's. The RIR hens are bigger body wise than the Sumatra roosters. The roosters make up for it in feathers.
Now the bantam Sumatra's are a human made monstrosity that never should have happened imho. Don't mess with mother nature.

There are similar names chickens that are NOT Sumatra's but people confuse them with Sumatra's. For instance Serama. NOT a Sumatra. But people get confused easily.

Speaking of anal do you mean fowl.....ok it is tuesday, my Friday, and I have had two(not one) but two glasses of wine and I feel like being a smart alec!! Besides Stoney, I think you will give it right back to me and yes, I CAN take it!!!....OK, I am going to have my third! I love wine!!
