. A good dry red wine???? mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I have 14 hens. When did that happen? I also have 7 roosters. That's not a good ratio (for the newbies....it's really really bad. 10:1 is far better) I think I just figured out where all the eggs are...still in the chicken....cuz they are too chicken to squat to lay them. LOL

Does it really matter? I am on my third glass and feelin' fine( only I have animals to feed in this crappy weather).... HHmmm maybe I will have another.....(it is a boxed wine from Price Chopper. Cheep(haha) and not so bad. You're welcome to come and share. I have been invited to Spain and train with Olympian Juan Manuel Munez Diaz (dressage). So If I decide to, I have to live on the cheap(note spelling). Really cheap.......Really, really cheap........More boxed wine for me please!!!

Oh Cass! The girls have to keep them safe! PS roosters taste really good. Especially when slow cooked with WINE!!!!(and garlic, onions, carrots, peppers............)

I should try this, though when I give mine anything different, they don't seem to know what the heck to do with it, either. How high did you hang it, head height or lower than that? Also, just any kind of cabbage is OK?

Thx.

TOB
I just got a regular head of cabbage from Aldis and put this super long screw in it and hung it up. At first I put it almost eye level so they could see it. They didn't do much wiht it for the first day. Then the next day I noticed that they started to peck at it. Once I knew that they got the hang of it I raised it up so they had to jump a little to get it so it was just above their heads. I left it up and by the third day there was only a little bit left. I plan on getting some more for them through out the rest of winter. I figure every few weeks or so. Gives them something to do.
Well I'm trashing all my large eggs from the incubator. I can't believe this, not a single one developed. 2 had blood rings. Why?!? I'm down to 2 silkie eggs in the Brinsea.

Edited to Add: I just checked the yolks again the other day with the last three eggs I got from the Buff and BR before sending them off with Payner and they all had the little bullseye mark on them.

Here is one of the larger eggs with the blood/circle vein:

These are the two Silkie eggs

That is soo cool!!!

All this talk about correct spelling has me on edge!

I am one of the worst spellers in the world. I use spell check with almost every post. I do get rather embarrassed with how many error that I make...Thank god for spell check or you would see it

.

(only 3 with this one)

Well I got the fox bait chickens. Metella was nice enough to take the roo, who is apparently about 95% ameracauna with either some silkie or some cochin somewhere in his distant past. We're hoping that bred to the leghorns he'll produce hens that lay the sky blue eggs she's looking for. I kept a mutt hen who is sweet and two leghorns. Everyone was dusted and wormed before they even got in my car and they are now in quarantine. One leghorn seems to be having a panic attack because she's just making a low sound over and over and over and over. Hopefully by the morning she'll be done with that.
