NY chicken lover!!!!

Forgot to tell you all, I went to Agway yesterday while I'm down here and remember the two coops I was trying to decide on? Well the they had the rectangular one set up at Agway, so it was nice to see it out together and how big it actually was. Didn't have the nestbox on it but I'm happy I saw it in person. Ventilation didn't look good on it. I would have had to make some alterations on it if I had gone with that one.

My coop arrived to the house yesterday. DH was off and texted me when it was delivered. He said it was funny because when the guy pulled up and opened the back of the truck, there were three other CCOnly coop boxes in the back of the truck! Lol

So today is day 9... Candled 30 eggs only have 13 left in the incubator :( my son broke every clear egg and confirmed nothing was growing. I have 4 eggs with eyes and veins. The others I can't tell. I set 5 more I took out of the coop today. Is that ok?

Feather Sexing - I dont know if my breeds can be ..Dont know for sure if I am right ...lets say it is a educated guess
But what I read says this
How to Sex Chicks on Days 1 – 3 After Hatching

To tell the difference between and cockerel and a pullet, you’ll need to look at the chick’s wing feathers. This is done on Days 1, 2 or 3 after hatching. There are two different sets of wing feathers on each chick: the “Primary” wing feathers and the “Covert” wing feathers. When you hold the chick in one hand and use the other hand to spread the wing out, you’ll be able to see the feathers. Cockerel wing feathers are all the same length. Pullet wing feathers are two different lengths.
Wing feathers all the same length = Male
Wing feathers two different lengths = Female
It’s that easy. On some cockerels the wing feathers are slightly different lengths. You may look at it and note that they are not exactly the same, perhaps 1/8″ or 1/16″ off, and you may wonder if that one is a pullet. No, it is not. The pullet feathers are dramatically different in length. There is 1/4″ or more difference.
Glad you all got there safe ...

Cool info. Thanks. If it is true then yes you have yourself a girly. I wonder if ALL breeds can be feather sexed....cuz if it was that easy why do they check the vent on some breeds?

Thanks! I will give it a shot

The hard part will be getting her to hold still .
Wrap her in a towel ..covering her head with just the beak sticking out .
If her head is covered it should calm her

Well it's raining and our driveway and yard are ice skating rinks with at least and inch of water and growing. The Chickens loved it till it started to rain, and the boys (ducks) were in heaven. They didn't want to go back in the run. Took some pics of my roo, but he was moving so much they didn't come out that well, but this is the best one that I have. I still think that it looks like he's giving the bird.

I'm sure that he'll lose at least the very top of it. His waddles are better too now that they frostbit parts fell off. You can tell that they are tiny compared to before.

And we had a visitor last night. At first I thought that it was my cat from last night, but after getting a closer look , I know that it isn't my cat! Trail looks like it came in from the road and went all over the plowed part of the yard then it made its way over to the chicken run and went over the fence! I saw prints all over the place. It looks like it looked around the duck hut with no way in it moved on to the chicken coop. It walked under and it looks like it spent some time trying to get in the pop door, but then moved on. I lost track of what direction the tracks left in.

The prints are bigger then the opossum that we caught the last time. This may be a raccoon?

Id say that that the fact it checked out the duck hut then the coop that it may be what killed your duck .
Good thing they were buttoned up ..did your dogs make a racket last night ?
Id say it is a coon ..from the pattern trail .
Heres some tracks of both

wow you are brave (and lucky) shoes on ebay!! I have sasquatch feet and have to try shoes on before I buy or I'll be sorry.
You should be able to return them no problem but you will have to pay the shipping back.

Well I've never ordered shoes off Ebay which is why I'm asking. I'm at the other end of the spectrum and I can't find 71/2 even DSW! So I checked on line and I can find shoes and much cheaper too. I'm sure I'll order something. IMO men needs four pairs of shoes. Black and Brown dress, a good pair of casual and a good pair of sneakers. ( now known as , walkers, runners, joggers, work out, etc. etc. )

This is why folks think life was so much easier in the "good ol days". You didn't have sixteen kinds of eggs or milk or sneakers, or shirts or jeans. Good garden o' peas! I guy could go crazy trying to buy stuff now. I can see it now.

"Where's your father?" " I don't know he went down the pizza aisle and never came back" "Well we've been here two days if he doesn't show up soon he can walk home". Grocery stores have become a destination trip!

I think they want to put a hotel at Destiny mall for folks to stay at while they wait for the teenagers to come back from where every it is they go.

Anyhow, try Ebay they have sizes the stores don't. Otherwise we'll be stuck wearing flip flops all year long.

Tractor Supply is selling a coop set up now. $229 I think. Did you do your tax free thing?

Same here. Ice city. The ducks will love it.
My rooster looks just like that. They survive.
Smelled a skunk last night and am worried it may have gotten into the garage. They can get in very small openings. We've had that problem before. Of course their stink can travel pretty far. Kinda like my son in laws feet.
