NY chicken lover!!!!

The lavs /Blues/greys do have puffy cheeks & slate / grey legs .
They are almost identical. At first I called them both chipmunk coz of their puffy cheeks .
As they grew their combs became different ..so I split chipmunk - 1 is chippie 1 is munkie
I think the black hen has grey legs too ...she does have puffy cheeks
1 black roo has grey legs too ...& puffy cheeks ..
We had more ..black Amer roos but they went to freezer camp
2 black roos are Sumatra / mixes - one all black 1 black & grey / Lav
I try to get pics

I love the puffy cheeks!! they have inquisitive funny faces. I hope I get a egg hatch I have 4 eggs in but I think one is kaput.

That close to the house he should be okay ..
You could take a flash light & stick a broom in there to push him out if you had to .
Ive done that before with stubborn hens ..

This porch is too long to do that. And there's only one opening for him to fit thru, the other end is too close to the ground. I would never be able to reach him with a broom! Lol

Woke up to him crowing by the door of the coop this morning!

Glad your roo is safe. Now if those tree birds will report in I can stop worrying about everyone. Unfortunately then I will get back to worrying how to increase the flock, and animals in general, housing etc, sheep? Goats? Fencing, gardens. There's always something to worry about.

Glass are you seriously contemplating adding more animals? I've always wanted goats. But I'm sure if I contacted my landlord and asked if we could have them he'd want to kick me out. Lol I love the Boer goats.

I can't wait to add more animals. I'm going to get a few goats in a few years, maybe turkeys next year. Then my 10 year plan is to get the barn rebuilt and then HORSES finally. Until then it is as may ducks and chickens that I can have before DH kills me!

Sheep are useless, unless you like to eat Lamb. Or knit and know of a co-op that will have your wool turned into yarn for you. Goats are fun and give milk. But to give milk they have to "freshen" every year....which means have a baby....so then your herd of goats gets bigger and bigger OR you have them butchered for meat. Of course you can try to sell them, but there is very limited market for male goats and only slightly larger market for female goats. (Breed dependant, of course...there used to be a waiting list for miniature goats from a good breeder)

And both poop all over, so you can't collect the manure for composting and using as fertlizer. And eat hay, which means throwing around 70# bales of hay all winter. I'm inclined to stick with fowl. I'm getting to old to throw around bales of hay and rake out large areas full of wet bedding. Well, fowl and maybe a miniature cow.

I spend most of my free time upgrading and coming up with new ideas to make things easier...it's a hobby

My future plans involve a greenhouse attached to the coop for winter veggies

but I will believe that when I see it

Well consider a hoop, easy and cheap. This one is attached to a coop but could easily do as a stand alone green house.

Told you so. Glad he's okay even if he is an Alien.

I would too, if I had someone one to help take care of them. I've considered sheeps, or pigses, or goatses but that would mean extra care. I'm considering a stand at the market since I have so many eggs.. That would mean tax stamp and all that stuff.
