NY chicken lover!!!!

As everyone knows Lynzii and a couple of us got together to order ducks. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in ordering chicks. Specifically BR chicks from Fred. I could order eggs but would prefer to order chicks.

Sometimes ordering chicks is more cost effective. IMHO. Immediate gratification and no risk of unhatched eggs.

$4 per egg times 12 = $48 plus shipping of $15 = $63 = $5.25 per egg. If you get 50% hatch 6 chicks will have cost you = $10.50 per chick.

I might be driving south of Batavia this weekend, saturday if I do go. If anyone wants eggs or chicks, let me know. The Coronations are fertile, Marans, I can let a few Brabanter eggs go if they lay more, I have enough in my incubator. I have Silkie chicks and a couple of Lav Orp chicks. Also some Coronation chicks, about 3-4 weeks old.

Hello Chickenland, NY!

New bycer here, just north of Watkins Glen. Relative newbie to chickens (2.5 yrs) though I've had birds since '85ish. Current beak count is 9 chickens (Wyandotte, americauna, Orpington, brahma), a pair of Chinese geese, 1 African grey, and a female eclectus.

Hope you r all doing well & staying warm through this miserable cold weather.

Wondering if anyone out there has an extra incubator they could spair for April & may of this year. A couple of my girls are real broody & I'd like to put some fancy eggs under them, but need a backup plan in case they abandon their mission. I plan on buying a decent incubator for the 2015 season, but just can't swing it this year. 3 more months of nursing school left.

Please pm me if you have something I could borrow, rent, or buy for cheap. Perhaps u upgraded this year & have something sitting gathering dust.

Regarding the hubby banter: mine would be quite put out if he knew I was looking for a bator. I find it's a careful juggling act of what to tell him when. Sometimes the best thing is to just bring home the cute little fuzz-butts bc then he can't say no. I try to give him a heads up on some of my plans to keep him involved, but can't tell him the whole plan.

Kind regards!

Hi, Welcome Watkins Glen! I don't have a extra incubator but... Have you thought about building a cooler-bator? its not to expensive and will hold a couple dozen eggs with the right cooler like a 48 QT coleman. I'll be happy to help you if you are interested.

I have a hen that doesn't seam right. Her wings are hanging low and she is not moving around normal. Should I remove her? Does anyone have experiance with something like this. I'm worried bc I have baby's coming in a week.

Ok so I've been trying to research but I'm having no luck finding what I need. I'm trying to find out if ducks are allowed in the city of Syracuse because someone keeps emailing me and is really interested in the 2-3 Pekins I have left. I came across this for chickens but can't find anything on ducks. Anyone know if these are the same rules that would be enforced for ducks as well?

Cooler-bator: sounds interesting. What kind of heat source is used with a cooler-bator? That might be a great option.

I have no interest in lying to anyone, especially my husband. It's far too much work to keep an alternate story straight, especially with my spotty memory and high anxiety level. I find though, that I will delay a discussion about a project until I have most of the logistics figured out. Then when he tries to rain on my parade I have answers ready. Love my husband, but kind of like my gander, he can be a little difficult sometimes.;)

I would definitely quarantine her.

1. how old she?
2. what breed is she?
3. where did you get her?
4. any changes to the flock?
5 any changes to her feed?
6. is she eating and drinking?

There was an article in the paper recently that said chickens weren't allowed but if some one had them and there were no complaints folks weren't bothered. Trust me as a former letter carrier there are chickens in the city.

My guess is with a privacy fence, folks could keep ducks in the city.

The article was about a man in Earlville. I think if you googled it you'd find it. In his case I believe it was all political.
