NY chicken lover!!!!

I candled the turkey eggs, tomorrow is day 14. So tickled I saw some Royal Palm embryo's moving even!! Little swimmers! Squealed and scared the cats made the dogs bark. I never saw that before!

Sadly I think the Blue Slate eggs are no good but its hard to see in those. I'll leave em a while yet but nothing goin on like in the RPalm eggs that went in at the same time. Poor little BS eggs prob just got shook up too much in the mail who knows. .

Rancher I hope your wife gets feeling better. This weather is not helping at all!

I have no pics of chickens or turkeys yet to share but I have my Russian Orloff eggs arrived today LOL. All the way from Oklahoma and all intact. They were wrapped and stuff I took them out and just set them in the shred paper fat side up to rest until tomorrow. I DID find 25 of the large Russian Orloff chicks to buy and they will prob be coming March 17th.

waiting to get upacked this morning. Everybody is all out and unpacked. Getting settled for tomorrow to go in the bator! I got them all with the money I made selling stuff I don't want or need anymore on ebay. Incubators are on the dining room table its just too cold everywhere else in the house to put a bator right now.

I agree could really use sun as well, just started taking vit d 3000 iubs a day may have to up it to 4, but I have noticed a pretty big difference since I started taking it.

Man wish I knew you needed seeds, I have a bunch left over from our seed swap, some tomatoes, peppers, some beans, and TONS of flowers. That stands for anyone interested, if you would be able to contribute a few dollars for shipping I could send you some seed

Thanks for the offer but I'll stick with this til I'm done with chickens. Come spring the broody hens will be numerous. If they're anything like last year. I just need to give the a place to set undisturbed.

I'm waiting patiently for another egg from my lavender silkie today, doesn't look like I'm getting one unless she too decides to lay one over night. I want to get out there soon after they lay so they're not all duds due to the cold. I just hate to throw them in the incubator and have them all not develop because of the cold temp when I could have stuck them in the fridge and used them for eating. THATS what I hate most about hatching and having none develop. Maybe I'll do a small hatch of only like 5 eggs. I'll start them in my LG and then when others hatch and are removed I'll transfer the new 5 into the Brinsea. We'll see.

JWEBB ~ That's a lot of eggs!!! I'm curious about the Bantam Chocolate Orpingtons because I have seen them listed for sale on here before. Are they as small as a bantam cochin do you know? I didn't even know there were such things as "Bantam" Orpingtons until end of last year. IF I ever do decide to part with the trio of Orps I have and stick to bantams, I would like to get bantam orpingtons IF I could find them in the same colors I already have which are the Lavender, Splash and Blue.

Speaking of Orpingtons, The woman I got my Lavender Orpington hen from runs a 4-H group (I believe) and her daughters are in it. Anyway, they are having a Chick Sale Fundraiser and I came across her ad on CL this morning.,.,

If anyone is interested in purchasing chicks to help the Country Homesteader's 4H Group you can email her here: [email protected]
Looks like the chicks will be available on April 12th.

Gramma chick those are wild turkeys? very neat to have them so close by! Yes the Orloff chicken are a funny breed, on the critically endangered list and I totally fell in love with them. They remind me of hawks on land. They have muffs on their face to add to the unusal look. They come in large fowl size and also bantam. The APA recognizes only the bantam right now but they are working on a standard for the big ones. You know how sometimes something just hits you? this breed HIT ME HARD! very cold hardy.

I have a 30x50 baxter building that has held junk for the last 10 years! cleaning it out and making a wonderful chicken house out of it.

Update on the missing Guineas...
Out of the 4 that flew the coop, 3 have returned. Two said "enough is enough" and walked right into the run. The last one was spotted today by a friend as we were leaving the house. He was in the middle of the stream on the ice...pretty sad shape. I had to walk through the snow, down to the creek.

He just sat there, so I broke the ice and walked right in (brrrrrrrr) and picked him up. Poor guy...so run down. I walked him up to the coop and offered him all sorts of food and water. He is now separate from the crowd and recovering. I am still concerned he may not make it, but he is looking good with no obvious marks or cuts

I did a far and wide recon of the surrounding area and not a feather, nor any tracks could be found of the last missing one. Of course the only one left is all white

At this point, it does not look good for the last one, but I will keep looking
