NY chicken lover!!!!

OMG...those things are killers.  Next time hit it with the car and save the $1 for the bullet.  If it gets in your coop?  OMG.  Make sure that doesn't happen

A mink is a very serious predator which needs to be eradicated ASAP. A friend & her chickens were tormented by one for over a year before they finally caught him. In the mean time he killed at least half a dozen of her chickens and her pet bunny. They don't just kill, they shred their prey and leave a massacre scene behind.

My friend thought it was a raccoon and started w a havahart trap which was put under some hay. Nothing caught so that progressed to a motion sensor camera which photographed him looking right at the camera. They tried sitting out there w a shotgun and then leaving the shotgun next to the door to act quick... Very smart elusive animal. Very tough to catch.

What finally caught the mink was a conavair trap purchased at bass pro for $7 inside a wooden box with a small hole for the mink to go in. Apparently small openings make them curious. The trap was bated with chicken livers and the box was covered w hay. He was caught w/in 7 days of setting this trap. They were able to then sell the pelt for $35.

Minks are beautiful animals which are sad to see killed. But they need to be taken care of before they hurt our birds. Nothing is like going out to feed the chickens and finding carnage. Ugh.

Good luck!!! Hope he's either moved on or you catch him quick!

Well I've had an eventful few days. First, I awoke yesterday to the bulb in my homemade incubator blown and the temperature at 70 and the eggs all cold. Cue panic and a mad dash for a new bulb. Found one, but it put off more heat than the old one so I had to sit there in front of the bator for an hour tinkering with the thermostat to avoid frying the eggs. Upon candling all survived but jeez.

Then yesterday I also managed to sell hatching eggs on eBay. Problem is the buyer has STILL not paid. I've emailed them and explained that thanks to my work schedule if they don't pay me tonight I can't ship tomorrow and if they don't pay me tomorrow I can't ship at all this week without the eggs getting stuck somewhere over the weekend. No word from the buyer. So now I'm worried I'm going to have to open a dispute over the very first thing I've sold on eBay. Yay. The kicker is that I specifically scheduled the auction to end so that I could ship my eggs today on my day off.

But at least my autoturner for my brinsea came in today. It's working like a charm. And, I also have life in at least one sebastopol egg! So those have been the bright points of the last few days. Oh, and one of the cochin bantams is laying. I've started incubating the egg to find out which.

well how frustrating for you, for Petes sake people buying hatching eggs on ebay should pay right away so you can collect and ship. Hope you hear from them tonight. Glad your eggs are ok! o I am so jelly of the Brinsea

but happy for you with the turner.

O i see now it was your first sale ever... uggg shame on them... I see some egg sellers request on their page that payment needs to be made within 24 hours. I don't think thats unreasonable considering you are against the clock in the hatching eggs department.

I bought ONE package of Grogel on ebay on March 5th.. paid immediately. Have I got a tracking number, message from the seller or anything? no, not a word just sit and wait, well I don't do that very well..I did send them a message and waited politely a couple of days.. oh well I just filled out the resolution thinger to cancel it I'll go get it somewhere else. Its so silly.

Oh you could even put "Payment is expected at end of auction so your eggs can get on the journey to you! "

I was also really mad because I spent a good half an hour last night making sure they were all packed up nice and snug, including four extras just in case, etc etc. I wouldn't be so mad if they would just get in touch with me and tell me what's going on. I can understand if they need more time or something, but at least let me know!

And the worst part is I did! I said please pay as soon as possible to avoid delays in shipping, and still this. Just ugh.

Meant to add, tomorrow is lockdown and I'm not even candling before hand because those eggs have jiggling wiggling and moving around since Saturday!!! Anyone ever have a pip ON lockdown day? One of my eggs is moving around so much as if it's dying to get out!

Newbies should be arriving tomorrow. Hoping the storm doesn't interfere too much with me picking them up tomorrow morning.

My lone chick was hatched by Sweet T at exactly 21 days
Those log gardens look nice ...not chicken proof though ...they will think what a nice box you made for us .

Morning all. 40 this morning and the mud grows. Heard lots of noise from the girls in the terrorist coop this morning so I thought they must be laying lots of eggs. Nope. Got one egg. Grabbed the snow shovel and moved all of the wet stuff from the back of the coop under the roosts to the front. Threw a little scratch on it and they can do their own housekeeping. Pushed all the dry stuff under the roosts. Very little odor in the coop despite the wet poopy stuff in the back. I will be happy when it drys out. No precip as of yet but we are supposed to get rain. Then cold. 10 days till spring. Eggs are percolating along.

Off to the pharm to clean up from the idiot who was there yesterday. Ta for now.
