NY chicken lover!!!!

I can't wait to swing by marquisella's place a week from today to get my 3 younguns! I have been SO tempted to by some chicks at TSC but have been holding back. Oh wow, I just thought... Marquisella how do you brood your chicks? I use an ecoglow. If they aren't used to that I will have to train them a little. Shouldn't be too hard. Then of course there will be cheeping like crazy when it's lights out for the first few nights. If they are a couple weeks old it'll be harder on them, haha! I think I have a book light I can clip on the edge of the brooder. :D

Can you tell I'm excited?!

Hey all,

Have any of you had success hatching an egg with a dent in the large end? My Meyer eggs arrived today and one of them is dented. :-( But I'd like to set it anyways and see what happens.

Welcome to all newbies! And happy birthday sunnyside! I locked down some eggs today, and I'm still waiting on my other sebastopol egg. I'm hoping that when I return home tonight after work it'll at least be internally pipped. Meanwhile the lonely gosling that hatched on time is crying her head off, even with a mirror in her brooder, ugh. That egg can't hatch soon enough. Looking forward to locking down the other sebbie eggs too to make some room in my brinsea.

Sweetpea, you could give it a try. As long as the membrane isn't punctured there may be hope. I once hatched a blue copper marans egg that was cracked without my knowledge. I never patched the crack, and it let extra moisture out so she shrinkwrapped when she tried to hatch but I helped her out and she did fine. If you have any cracks you can patch them with clear nail polish or candle wax and see what happens. Can't hurt to try!

Hope you get what you wish for, and that your b'day is very " :celebrate "  !!!!!!!!

In case I don't get you on the day, Nutty, I hope you also have a ":ya " day!!!!

I also know a lot of April babies, including my brother and mother-in-law!  It's a nice month to call your own!

Most of my best friends through out my life have been born the last week of April. Including my DH who is April 29. I'm a May baby.

I think with the lettuce that is chopped at the bottom, you would have to root it first in water. I threw mine right in the dirt cuz the boston lettuce comes with the "bulb" and roots still on it in the container. I don't have a pic at the moment because the only ones we have are in the dirt on my window sill, but here's a pic I just googled. You can see the roots under the leaves in the hand of this person:

I did research it after seeing yours if it doesn't have roots you put it in a little bit of water which you change daily until you see new growth on the top then you plant in soil.

Who else has Sebastapols here? I know someone had some goslings recently, right? I am in love with mine. I wish I had gotten them sooner, but I was under the misconception that they needed a pond. Of all the geese, they stay inn the water the least amount of time, so most breeders, just have kiddie pools...

I'll have some goslings for sale probably late summer or fall. I can't keep them all if all my eggs hatch.

Hope everyone is enjoying this lovely cold rain...not!

Thx, Lynzi. I didn't know some heads of lettuce were sold with the "bulb" and roots attached. Do you just buy organic?

No, it's just the kind of lettuce we like for sandwiches and stuff. My husband came home with it one day a couple years ago and we've been buying it since. I just recently learned you can replant the ends and grow more so I figure why not give it a try since we buy it every week anyway.

Hope everyone has been good and enjoying this nicer weather. We took the kids to park on sunday for a bit. Just cant wait for my yard to dry out some.

Hi JLaw...hope you're doing OK these days. Nice to hear you got the family out to the park; our kids always loved that when they were younger.

I also can't wait for the yard to dry out some. It's a muddy mess. Sure not going to be getting any dryer over the next couple of days! UGH! This weather is making me CRAZY!

I think it's smart and frugal to try. At the very least, you can have some extra lettuce for the chickies!
