NY chicken lover!!!!

Nutty - I think marquisella found some grown geese and went and got them. I got my eggs from a breeder on here and another breeder and had the eggs shipped to me. If you're going to order them from a hatchery go with Metzer Farms - they do only waterfowl and they'll be the best stock you could get from a hatchery. Also, check the Buy Sell Trade section here - I think several breeders ship goslings. You'll want to get on their waiting lists quickly though.

Hey all,

Have any of you had success hatching an egg with a dent in the large end?  My Meyer eggs arrived today and one of them is dented.  :-(  But I'd like to set it anyways and see what happens.

If shell is cracked you will want to seal that area. I've heard of candle wax and fingernail polish. I tried fingernail polish but it wasnt completely dry and stuck to egg turner. When i went to candle the egg i broke it teying to get it out.

Well, I super glued the cracks in the dent, and then, when the super glue didn't dry after, I don't know...a half hour or so (what's up with that???), I used some Elmer's glue to seal it off. I don't have any wax, and I don't think I have any nail polish either, lol. We'll see what happens. I set as early as tomorrow...maybe Thursday. I'm waiting for some Marans eggs to arrive.

I have been looking at Metzers Farms and will probably get them there the thing that scares me about eggs is they say they are the real hard to hatch and they are pretty expensive so will probably just go with some live goslins.

Welcome to all newbies! Tell us about your flocks and be sure to include photos!

Our Craigslist is full of ducks and barnyard mixes. So looking for Sizzles or Frizzles.

Happy Birthday to all April birthdays. With all our April showers we have so much mud but it's better than snow at this time. Can't wait to be able to work in the garden. sue

Morning!

I keep forgetting to welcome all the new members so WELCOME, Newbies!! We are glad to have you!

My two Silkie eggs went into lockdown yesterday and this morning I have a pip in the splash egg! I'm glad because I hasn't seem that one wiggling yesterday like I did the lavender egg. So I thought maybe it was goner. These ones do not move around nearly as much as the Polish eggs did. They were a wild bunch!

Morning all. When I left for work yesterday I could hear chirping from the silkie eggs in the bator but when I came home last night nothing. No pips, no chirping, nothing. Today is day 23. I will have to take them out and crack them open and see what happened. I do have 18 more ready to throw in the bator so I will start over again. I was so excited to have silkie babies. Hopefully this next batch will be better. Broody momma is still sitting on her eggs so hopefully I will have a bunch of chicks from her. Have to candle the eggs in the hovabator tonight and see if I have to pull any. RIR and mutt eggs in there. Lockdown is this weekend. Hoping for a good hatch from them.

Jlaw--nice to hear from you and that things are going okay. Hows the work on the house going? The good part of having so many chicks is that you can always fill your freezer and/or can all the extras. Thats what I will be doing!

Rancher--glad you are enjoying yourself down south. Im sure dw is doing alright with your cheeps.

Okay Stony...todays word is gizzard.

Later cheeps!

You can use crazy glue, or just tape. I taped one once, and it hatched.
