NY chicken lover!!!!

She would like that, but wants a roo as well as they will free range. I explained to her about straight run, and autosexing breeds and I think they just want somewhere local where they can get some birds to start a small flock, and support local community as opposed to commercial hatcheries.

Thanks
I live in ulster county and I do have some mutt chicks available. They are old enough to sex them now. I have some reds and some barred rock boys. They come from my laying flock and are very healthy. Feel free to pm me for more info.

Wow, who turned summer on?!

I water candled the broody eggs today. 2 sunk so I broke them open, one never started and the other stopped at day 4ish.
5 wiggled, I'm not sure if it's too early to expect more "wiggling".
11/14 still cooking!

I will take it ! it feels so nice !
I wanted to mention to you ...About Broodys .
Part of the reason they are out of their mind ..is low blood sugar .
( Nurses will tell you .low blood sugar ...brain does not work well. ..Brain & all body systems need some blood sugar to function correctly).
Chickens normally eat all day ...Broodys once or twice a day maybe .?
I hand feed & hand water my broodys ..from a little dish or my hand .
So I know they have some water & nourishment .
My EE is so funny once a day she gets out of the hen house ...
She comes running & jumping out ...Screaming ...At 1st I thought a chicken was pecking her ..chasing her
Today she did it all by herself ...no one was even near her ..So funny ...

Who did turn on summer? I should thank and hug that person/thing whatever. Today was just awesome! My chicks did well with the lower brooder temp too. Tomorrow I am cleaning the brooder out as the "deep something or other" method is not working for me while they take up residence in my attached garage. Phew eww! Well so we have a few things going on tomorrow.
1. clean the brooder and figure out a new set-up so the chicks don't fly out or hit the lamp. 2 weeks.
2. I found a shed on craiglist that I will go look at and if I can buy it cheap enough I will convert it too a coop =). feeling excited. I really want to have the set-up completed in the next.
3. complete the chicken tractors for the meat chicks...this likely wont be finished but well maybe we can get one of the two done.

Feeling ambitious (that could be my glass of wine though =).

The chickens were happy little carnivores today! We had a big meat platter left over with turkey, ham, roast beef, and for some reason a couple cherry tomatoes. So I tossed it out for them. You should have seen them go crazy. Even the little EEs that haven't yet learned to run for chunks of bread or banana were all over it. If anyone ever argues that they aren't descended from dinosaurs I'll do it again and film it for them.

ty to all who answered my pepper question. Pretty sure my new girls will get the chance to sample few hot peppers if my kid will share them. Weather been wonderful rabbits are blowing their coats, time get freezer bottles ready.
