NY chicken lover!!!!

I've only water candled when I had eggs I was waiting on to hatch and it was past say day 21. They're so dark at that point and if they're not making any noise it can be difficult to tell if they are still alive. So since there were no pips I placed one in a bowl of water and it wiggled within 5 or so seconds so I took it out and stuck it back under my broody hen at that point. It hatched the next day. But I've never water candled before that point in time.
Good to know, I was kinda sad to see that only 5/11 wiggled. I'm hoping it was just too early.

Hope everyone is doing well, watch out for those fox, they seem to be out in force.
I'm sorry to those that have lost their girls to them.

Grandma, Thanks. We have 6 eggs in the tiny B incubator and yesterday one buff and one blue hatched. We are leaving the other eggs in for a couple of more days. Maybe?
More chicks? But we have 7 new ones and we are happy. Regards, Aria

It sounds like your eggs got fertilized ...
We have 2 broodys setting on 5 eggs ...so maybe we will have new chickies in 2 weeks too .
Probably be all black as Papa is a Black Australorp ..

I've not seen any foxes thank the Lord.

Frenchy has two more babies. B. Maran/EE crosses.

Who was it who had the Raspberries. I thought I was on the list for some.

I think you're on the wrong site. I am bringing red raspberry starts. The folks have a bunch, I'll bring as many as I can dig up on Friday! These red raspberries come into berry in July and keep on going into November. They are very prolific! We have red raspberry pies all year long and still have a lot in the freezer! Hopefully someday we'll have such luck with chickens.

We adore our chickens but they aren't doing much by way of making eggs. We got the double decker coop from TSC BUT the black silkie is afraid of heights. When we place her up a level she doesn't move and the other 2 chickens look like we're nuts for blocking their entrance. The frizzle hen sits on the 2nd level, comes down to eat. The roo, Fredo goes back and forth between the upstairs and down. We tease him that he has 2 "sister wives" to take care of...LOL! Fredo wants to be in the kitchen with us. If we can manage to find him a diaper, we could have him inside much of the day so he doesn't get bored out there with the hens. He's a very interactive bird and if he hears us he crows until we get him and pet him; or bring him a slice of bread!

Silkies don't like to be up very high, so she will probably never go up to that second level-kind of like she never roosted with the others when they would perch up in their roosts at night. So you'll have the same problem as you did with the roosting-she'll be chirping for the others if they are up top and she is in the bottom. It's best to keep them all on the same level if possible.

Can I possibly get one of these "Raspberry starts"??

I'm sure you're right, but most folks go back and forth I think. I know I do.

Still I'd like some and yet DW won't be up to coming and I don't want to leave her and come alone. I wish I knew someone nearby who is going but even though I've told everyone, I don't.

IN other news the chicks are hatching in the incu. One EE is already out. My calender says Thursday is hatch day. So far it looks as though only two CR (shipped) eggs are pipping. I just need one rooster to hatch and while I won't be happy I will be okay with it. A couple of Dels have started too.

Nutty has that hen laid anything yet?
