Hi neighbor

Sounds like you're getting some pretty birds. Good luck!

How long has she been sitting on that lst egg? I ask, because it will hatch before any other eggs you put in,, and the hen will get off her next to take care of the 1st chick & leave any unhatched eggs. That is why its best to put all the eggs in the nest at the same time. 1 day won't matter but more than that and you risk her leaving the unhatched eggs that still need more time to go.
All the eggs that they have are all from within a 3 day period. Peepers has 3 eggs that were laid each day and the BCM has 3 from yesterday and today.

Welcome. I'm sure that you'll find a bunch of really nice peeps that are full of information here!

Just found a Craigslist user from Canandaigua selling BCM (French standard) chicks! I've been looking for a local source forever, lol. I want to hatch my own, though...hope they get back in touch with me.

Wonder if they are a BYCer???

oo! Just got home - my one segregated broody is doing well and I see two or three NN chicks - plus three more in the incubator.. Also I think some EE's from Pyxis, although I just yanked the chicks and didn't check the eggs. (Yes, I open my bator and never had a problem with sticky chicks-my brinsea is awesome). Hard to actually HATCH 30 in a brinsea, so I have to pull them before they have little fuzzy faces pressed up against the plastic :p.

So, you didn't know I have black copper Marans from the Davis line? Selling eggs at this time.

Chicks are very sensitive to smells....you might want to hold off on the painting until you have longer for it to air out before you put chicks in it. For that matter, why paint it at all...they are only going to poop all over it.

(Someone reported a bird dieing from air freshner sprayed in the air)

Yes, I did! But you're a bit far, lol. I don't get up to Syracuse too often, but I do get up to Canandaigua nearly every weekend.

Can I ask, what are you asking for your eggs?

Welcome ! I agree with Cass why paint it ? If you do make sure it drys out .
Food for Thought - A brooder is quite warm 80-90 degrees ...so it might have fumes
