NY chicken lover!!!!

Pharm, I think Gru has a thing for your little lady, I find him over here along side her quite often ;-)

It sounds like he's choking...but seems normal. I hope that was blue kote on his head and comb otherwise I would assume that a blue comb like that would mean he's having trouble breathing.
I wonder how long you can leave that on for without having skin or feather issues around it.

On another note, I was coming up my road last night and there was a fox trotting down the shoulder....I swerved....for him. Unfortunately I missed, I didn't feel like putting my car in the ditch.

It is blue kote the hen has it on her also. Lol if it was that blue/black from lack of oxygen I don't think it would be moving anymore.

I swerve for all animals but I try to miss. It don't pay to miss them though. I blew a brake line locking them up to not hit a skunk. Then the fricken thing sprayed my car and ran off. Was a fun ride home from work that night.

On my insanely intense search for a frizzled chicken, I was looking at every city posted on Craigslist in NY. I know at one time or another someone was looking for Buff Orpingtons an I found some at Friendship, NY, I did find sizzled/frizzles that looked exactly like mine in Atlanta, NY and I found someone looking for a home for a very pretty Buff Orpington roo because he is so mean to hens and small children. How crazy is that. Anyway my search for a frizzled anything continues. I don't want a blue one. I drove to Michigan for an Australian Shephard posted with pics only to get there and it was a Border Collie, not the same dog posted or in the pic but brought it home due to abuse by the owners.

After caring for the dog for 3 yrs, he got hit by a car. :-(

Quote: My runs have covers and there is not food outside in the open. Now I did have a rabbit going in the one that I keep the door open to, to eat but they're so cute I just left it alone. I have Robins around too, but there is only so much we can do, right? Lord have mercy even if my chickens didn't crow you should hear the bird songs. Loud and...... well just loud.

i agree.. i dont have enough time as it is, always something breaking down somewhere, lol. i do like the birdsongs with my morning coffee

Lynzi--Im not surprised that Gru likes her. She is a gorgeous girl!

Okay...so the xrays were negative on everything. Got a shot of toradol in my butt and told no work this weekend and stay off the leg. I did hobble out to get eggs today and give the cheeps their melon. I finally have a little flexing going on in my knee. I think by monday it should be better. Now if only I could order replacement parts online!!!

It was a nice day today and my silkies had run of the property almost all day. The terrorists are out now, flaunting it in the faces of the brats/monsters. Of course they do the same thing to the terrorists when they are out and about. Cuddled my silkie chicks for a bit. Little fluffballs are quick! Love hearing their little peeps when I am holding them. Cant wait for the others to hatch out.

Have a good evening everyone!

Wow. You have Mille Fleur Cochins to? I thought me and Pyxis were the only ones here with them. I've got 2 dozen eggs hatching next week from my Milles.

She is my only Mille and the BEST little momma I could ask for ! My black mottled roo is the daddy. She hatched 3 yellows and one black/blue ( it's hard to tell what color thru the baby fuzz ! )

Good Luck with your hatch. I hope all 24 hatch for you

I LOVE my bantam cochins, they are the sweetest birds I have........................................problem is they come in too many colors !!

Are you going to the poultry show on Sunday @ the Fairgrounds ??

I'm just wondering whether I should scale things back some and who to cut. That mean rooster has to go, cuz I have to be extra careful with him around. DW has a scratch on her leg from his father who has never attacked me and I worry he will attack someone else if I need someone to care for that coop.

DW of course would not tell me to do so. She says "they're you chickens you do what you want with them" .

Lord have mercy, what kind of person takes care of 50 chickens and ducks for their spouse when they themselves don't like animals at all? Never complained not even about the mean jerk rooster.
I know it's all in Gods hands and I know he knows what's going on. I'm drawing on all that I've been taught at church for nearly 40 years to get us through this.
Rancher - I don't really know you BUT...You and your DW are in my thoughts.
I think you must do what you think is best for you and your situation but I agree that with everyone here that it may be good for you mental health to maintain your hobby even if at a smaller scale. Best wishes and hugs...

I haven't seen the straps for the neck before, but I have come a cross decrowing a rooster. There is/was someone on here who did the surgery. His first post has a video.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/705084/decrowing-roosters

I just came across a video that used a rubber band instead of strap which I think strap would be better so you can make sure it's set to the tightness you want.

As I'm jumping around watching chicken videos check out the spurs on this guy

those are some long spurs. Do you all do that? I definately will not be performing any kind of surgery. That's for sure - I sucked at the doctor game when we the kids had it...

lol you tried to hit him on purpose? We saw on in our field behind the house this winter but have not seen him since.

hopefully wont see him either. There are a news article that said they saw a bear two streets over from me this week.....not sure how a bear would react to chickens

Oh...here is the latest on my coop

It still needs to get painted and a roof but they are mostly done with it. They sent me pictures today. It is supposed to be 8x6 on the outside but its not tall enough to stand up in (which that may be a pain in the Ar$$ later but we shall see.)
