Lol Baking you are so bad at remembering hatch dates. Love the new babies! You have to let me feed them tomorrow :love

TOB--broody poop is the biggest, nastiest most foul smelling poop you will ever come across. Trust me, you will know it before you see it and will smell it before you see it! Even my silkie girls, who are little, leave the biggest calling card ever and I look at it and wonder how all of that vile smelling stuff came out of such a little hen! The large fowl hens make it look like a very large dog came through your yard.

Well, now.....that huge 3' stain of what could only have come from a veritable poop explosion on the back wall of my coop makes perfect sense now. Thank you for confirming what I thought, Pharm!

The coop, thanks to good weather, has been open to the air, so things aren't too stinky yet. I still have to get in there and scrub down that nasty streak, though.

One other thing I've noticed. A couple more broken eggs than is usual. Not sure if this is another thing associated with cranky broodies, or if it's an occasional issue with a naughty egg eater. I find them smashed in the nest box 2 or 3 times a week. Hmmmmm..... ?

Good luck with your (supposed) last hatch of the season, Pharm!!!

Good evening all. This sure has been a long week but tomorrow at 6pm my weekend will start =).
I have been dragging my chicken tractor through the yard for the last couple of weeks, moving it roughly every 12 hours. Today I notice some effects of this ......its hard to see but it turns out the chicken poop fertilizer is working already - check out the color difference in the grass (the drak green is the path I moved the tractor on). I am amazed!

My bff's mother raises pigmy goats and you can hear them at my mom's house 6 houses away lol. You can try to disgise as a dog all you want but ive never heard a dog sound like that lol.

Crazy weather..:/ few days ago A/C's were running full force and for the first time in a month I didnt have my Heat lamp on in the coop and the babies were adjusting well to no more lights and tonight its back down to below 50 already at 10 oclock so just to be safe I put the lamp back. Not sure if my two weekers could handle the colder temps yet.
Gotta love upstate ny!

Wanted to share a pic of the "Silkie chicks" that I hatched out back in March that ended up being Silkie/Polish crosses. They're so cute. I'm glad I kept them. They free range every day since their too small to keep in the fencing. They wander about in the yard and are pretty quick and can even fly. My husband calls them Hawk Bait but I'm not too worried about them. They stay well hidden in the woods and tall grass. They're pretty smart. And always together!

Could you trim the feathers around their eyes ...I dont know how they could see a hawk ..

Quote: No offense taken ...suggestions are always welcome ..

Desiree - so sorry you lost so many chicks ...
Youve got to let it know it isnt welcome .
A covered run should help
We have Hawks & Eagles ...saw some small birds chasing one of the eagles today .
I have heard of putting up things that blow in the wind ...wind socks or flags .
put mirrors out facing up ...it will reflect ..they wont be able to see as good.
only let them out when you are with them .
You might be able to fire a BB gun at the ground to scare them .
Have a rake near you for defense
you cant kill them ...only deter them ..
