Morning all. Been busy the last two days so I just finished reading all the posts I missed.
Sweetpea--looks like a silkie mix to me. The color is blue and it might be a pullet but dont hold me to that. Its cute and adorable!
Huntin--depending on the breed, around 16 to 18 weeks is good (unless they are annoying, then sooner is better). Make sure you let them rest in the fridge for a week or so then slow cook them. Tasty! Have you ever tried canning chicken? I did last year. Simply devine!
Luv--the one time Bill spurred me was the last time. That wound is still healing and we ate him already. I hope you gave your daughter a deadline for the reprieve and told her that he will be processed when that date comes. It really is only a matter of time before he gets one of the kids. I have a one strike rule. I just tell all the boys that there are plenty of other roos looking for a good home and that I have plenty of empty canning jars to fill.
Lynzi et al...congrats on your hatches! I lockdown on monday. Hoping for all those silkies to hatch. Like you Lynzi, I must downsize my silkies to make room for the newbies. Anyone interested in a quad of blues?
Rancher--Good to hear Dw is handling things. Treatment can be rough on a body, especially with complications of other diseases. Continued prayers for you and dw that she is healed and to give you strength at this time.
Work was insane on monday and I just wanted to kill everything in sight. Came home and had chicken therapy, which helped calm me down and put me in a better mood. The heat and humidity did me in yesterday and my fan was my best friend. Got good news and the all clear from my specialist on my mammo. Came home afterwards and turned loose all 4 coops so they could find nice cool spots to hang out in. Lugged water twice to make sure they had plenty of fresh cold water. Everyone enjoyed the freerange time they had. Working today so they are locked up till chicken daddy gets home. The brats are almost as big as the terrorists now and when they get their confidence up, they wont be backing down so easily. My heretage rir are beginning to look like grownups now. The girls are getting the necklace and a nice shape to them. My roos are still developing and Clyde is asserting himself as the dominate one. Interestingly, he doesnt feel the need to do so when all the other boys are sparing, just when things are getting out of hand. He wont let me touch him yet. I do have to get my hands on these ones though and put new bands on them. I think the broiler feed has been good for both the brats and the monsters as they seem to require a little less but are filling out quiet nicely. My hens are still at only 10 eggs a day from 19 of them. I caught two of them yellow beaked on monday eating an eggs. As soon as the brats start laying, I am culling some of the older hens.
Off to another long day at the pharm. Stay cool everyone and have a nice day.
