I know we are a right to farm community but I wasnt sure to what extent. The neighbors right next door to us have dogs but keep them gated cause she doesn't want them to get to the hens

plus I wasnt sure if u needed a licence to have farm animals.

Then you know about the Guinea hens. (maybe you own them?) As far as I know you need no permit to have animals ....we (and probably you based on your neighbors) are zoned "Agriculture/light commerical". That zoning means you are already permitted to have farm animals.

Not crazy! The hen in my avatar with chicks is a red sex link. She was an excellent mother, although I don't expect her to ever repeat her broodiness.

So I found out what has been killing my chickens and stealing my eggs. As I had suspected, it was a raven. I know this because during the huge thunderstorm we had last night, the coop I was brooding my chicks in was damaged. The raven took advantage of this and broke in and stole and ate every single baby. Not one was left. All were gone without a trace with the exception of one duckling that got stuck in the chickenwire trying to get away. This one the raven just ate the head off of, just like it did to my broody cochin. I know it was the raven because when I went out to care for everybody this morning I caught it in the ate of trying to slip back in and see if there was anything left for it. So now the question is, how do I get rid of the raven? Shall I just borrow a bb gun and shoot the stupid thing? It's around every day around one pm so it wouldn't be hard to get.

SSS (shoot, shovel and shut up...but I always put shut up first) They may be protected....but if it was doing such things at my house it would not live long enough for me to find out if it was or wasn't protected. (And a BB gun would not be my weapon of choice)

It's too bad because I like them for keeping hawks away, but this is just not okay. No point in keeping the hawks away if it's going to eat my birds instead.

No, I just recently heard about them from my mother-in-law. No I was told guineas like to stray so I went with chickens :) so you live near me and have roosters but I haven't heard them! :) so maybe he is just loud sounding to me

On Railroad ave/road...that tiny road between stewarts and Pixies....last house on the left (there are only 2 houses..LOL)) They have Guinea hens, chicken and a rooster. I have seen and heard the rooster....so I would say you can have a rooster without a problem.

That's terrible. I hope you have good aim, sounds like otherwise it'll just keep coming back for the free meal. Those birds are too darn smart.

I'm so sorry Pyxis. Must have been horrible to walk in to. Hope u are able to catch the raven. Will be sad to take out a bird like that as well, but if it's taking ur babies, it has to go. Good luck!!

Here are my 6 new babies!

Very cute! How did u get them all to stay still at once?:)

Ok did my berry picking got 51 lbs of Strawberries should be done with them tomorrow and soon it will be Blackberry and raspberry picking time I know my bushes all have at least green berries on them and some are getting close to be red now if I can keep the chickens out of them long enough to pick them.

I have all sorts of new little chicks hatch that were under my broody silkies the crazy little things are running all over the place it is comical to watch them.

Good thing I decided to let my nurse job talk me into working this summer when I wasn't teaching as sons college is going to cost me $10,000 for the next year. Told him he better remember that when I am old and need someone to support me.

Thankfully someone up above was watching out for the hubby tonight as a young girl going to fast lost control of her car hit him head on and then bounced off of him and put her car in a ditch and the worst part was he drove his corvette so it was really damaged but thankfully no one was seriously injured hubby is sore but will see how he feels in the morning and the girl ended up with a busted lip. Her mother was upset about her insurance and the fact that they are going to have to pay to repair a corvette and my reply is well be glad she didn't get hurt and maybe next time she gets behind the wheel she will drive the speed limit.
I told him he was so lucky he wasn't driving my corvette or I might have had to of hurt him LOL!

You have been busy ! are your hands Strawberry Red ?
Glad he wasnt hurt bad ..Corvettes are replaceable ..husbands Arent ...
