NY chicken lover!!!!

I am looking to give them away for free. I am new to chickens and don't think I could eat them. I thought about it today and got this look from the head honcho.

Well if you can't eat them fried or some other way, you might consider using them for soup or broth. Broth you can freeze to store and not give it so much thought come winter time.

I live right on the NY / PA border and my husband works at Tractor Supply in Warren, PA. I have conditional permission from the store manager there to hold a chicken swap the weekend of 9/27/14.

In order to hold this however we need at least 12 confirmed participants. Mif you are interested, send me a PM.

Thanks

On the border huh? Well which part of your place is the most on which side? Cuz if your place is more on the PA side then you have to go to that thread, BUT if it's more on the NY side you have to be on this thread and pay a tax.

Funny how no matter where I go I look for a TSC store. In Alabama it was right around the corner from my Son's place. In TX it's not to far from my daughters place. Neither of which could have chickens.

Evening all. I went and picked two flats of strawberries this morning then made jam out of one flat. Cleaned and washed the other flat and stuck them in the freezer. The best part was that I opened the door and tossed all the leavings off the kitchen porch and voila! all gone! The cleanup detail (aka the terrorists) left not one hull or anything else. Like it never happened. Anyways, made dh a nice strawberry shortcake with fresh whipped topping tonight. Judging by the cleanliness of his plate when he was done, I would say it was good. Cheeps were happy out all day today. It was a beautiful day today.

Luv--nice job on your roo. Sharp knives and practice will have you expert in no time.

Adreaner--you might have to do the deed if you cant find those guys homes.

Rancher is right about buying birds. Its a crap shoot and you could end up with good birds and not so good birds. I have had a few, bad and good. Getting better at this though.

Long day at work tomorrow. Try not to be too chatty while Im gone!

I would love to pick strawberries but our freezer is chocked full. I just used the strawberries from a fruit platter my niece brought to make a pitcher of smoothy.

SAH, and hers dw were here and bought two maran and two BR's. They're real nice. I'm hoping we can work together on them since I can't keep large quantities at this time. I had plans to extend a hoop coop but with DW and all going on I'm cutting back. I've still got some EE chicks and hens on eggs. The hens have until the end of the month and then all eggs will be pulled whther they hatch chciks or not. (I'm tired of back spacing to fix mispellings. )

If the weather stays cool they might hatch a few.

Oh we're fully on the NY side. But warren is actually closer to us than the nearest NY store. And I like the staff better too

Hello everyone! I follow this thread but don't post much. I'm having a issue with getting rid of my cockeral chicks. My only 2 buff Orpington turned out to be both male! They are gorgeous.
Anyhow, I posted them on the bst thread, craigslist, and notices up at my local farm stores. I've even stopped at a few farms when I've seen people outside and ask if they want them, lol.

Anyone have anymore suggestions for me?
They are 5 1/2 to 6 weeks old now.
Where do you live? I would be interested if you were close enough. I live just outside of Corning.

Little BR chicky is having some trouble. Had pasty butt that I washed off last night. Tonight it's poor little vent is swollen terrible and can't poop. It cries every time it tries. I rinsed off what little crusty stuff there was then ran it under cold water for a minute, then applied some A&D ointment. Everyone else seems to be ok, now that I got the brooder temp down. And it looks worse on this chick since it has no tail. Wish I still had those witch hazel pads from the hospital after having little girl 4 years ago, that is the only thing I can think of possibly helping.

do you have any raw honey ? That works to help heal also

AWWW so Sorry
Mr Baunlee and I got engaged - CONGRATULATIONS
.I planted a garden around their coop of veggies I don't have any intentions for. I set down some wood logs around plants like rosemary and yarrow to keep the grass from growing up around the plant. I have other logs on the side of the run for bugs.
