NY chicken lover!!!!

Gramma---roflmao! Were you watching Gandolf and thats why you burned your egg? lol

Yes...I have tried everything scriptwise. I will have to look into the coconut oil. Of course if I lost a few more pounds that would help too. That being said, my cholesterol numbers have been the same for over ten years now and I havent dropped dead yet so Im good with that. My father had the same numbers all his life and couldnt take any of those meds either. Its all in the genes!

No pips yet on the eggs and Im being very good about running in every ten minutes to see. I did hear a crow this morning as I stepped out the sliding glass doors. It came from the brats/monsters coop. Sniff...the boys are hitting puberty! Better count my canning jars again to make sure I have enough! lol Mananged to get my hands on Clyde again. After his initial protest he settled down and let me hold him and pet him a bit. I am not making him into a pet, just want him to know that if I hold him for any reason (like for inspection, etc) that it will not be an unpleasant experience and that I mean him no harm. Had to laugh because one of the girls came back in looking for him and me. I think she was jealous that he was getting attention so I picked her up and petted her while she talked to me the whole time. Might name her Penny. She is a very vocal, very social heritage rir girl.

My Little Man and his girls are going to their new home on friday. It makes me very sad because they are my babies but I know they are going to a good home. I only have so much room and need to change up my breeders a bit. At least I will have their sons and daughters to work with and hopefully some new chicks soon from another breeder. I am getting closer to my goal of light blue in silkies and I think these changes will help a lot. Still gonna miss my kids though.

Feels like rain today. We need a little. My plants look good now that we have dried out some. Off to the pharm today. Everyone have a good day.

My girls (and boys) are 4 weeks old today. Of the 8 seems that 2 are roo's, when what i wanted was 8 hens. Sadly the sweetest of the bunch and the best looking is one i think is a roo. Wifes already started asking me to keep him, which sucks because I work rotating shift work, so if hes making noise all day it might affect my sleep. Might be looking for homes for 2 Silver laced wyandotte roo's.

It's summer, a fan will cover the crowing. And they don't crow all the time, you'll sleep right through it. If you only have one roo it won't be that loud or noisy. It's when you have more than one they get into crowing wars and the noise can get on your nerves. Grow him out and see if it really is a problem. Mine never is. (And a roo in the flock is good protection for the ladies. Not to meantion saves you money if you ever want more birds....hatch your own eggs that way you know exactly what you are getting)

Kudo's to those who have many chickens for breeding, egg production etc. the 13 I have is plenty!!

Oh, 13 sounds lovely! I just want to go from three to six, LOL. Maybe seven, if Waffles is a roo... and I have my suspicions.

Bite your tongue. There are plenty here with chicks that you should not have to buy from them. I haven't had to buy chicks from a hatchery since being here on BYC. Too I've been hatching plenty to give chicks away over the years.

Sorry, but I just like to do business with my friends first.

I'd much prefer to add to my flock via local BYC'ers, too. :) My three are about 6 weeks old, so, if anyone has chicks between 4 - 8 weeks and has 3 or 4 that they need to rehome, please let me know :) Pullets, please, my village doesn't let us have Roo's. (Though, I've gotten attached to waffles, so I may be a renegade Roo owner if he starts crowing.)

The girls are out bright and early this morning. We had some rain overnight, so they are happily digging up bugs and peeping away. Lots of crows out this morning too, and I still worry about the lone hawk I've seen out here a few times. You'd think that there would be LESS risk of predation in the suburbs!

Made plans with DH to start working on the coop this weekend! Super excited. These birds need to get OFF of my front porch!

I hope everyone has a fabulous day.
Best,
Melissa

Horsekeeper---thanks for the link! I downloaded the poster and will print that out.

Rancher and Lynzi--you can have the pharmacy at target order you castor oil. Its cheap and I order it and use it for my birds during the winter. Guess I will be doing it when I see this issue pop up again as well. I can tell you that when I cooked eggs in castor oil, it does stink out your kitchen something fierce! I now just pour it on whatever I am going to give my birds as a treat. Less stinky
Not "Caster" oil, "Cod Liver" oil.

Well I might be able to accommodate you but you're a bit a way. Too we're not doing much driving with DW being sick and all. If you're looking for a specific breed you might have to be patient. All I've got right now is EE's .

It would be nice if we could get a chickens railroad of sorts. Folks posting where they're traveling to and whether they can connect with someone needing transport of birds.

My brothers used to do something similar with Homing Pigeons.
