My girls (and boys) are 4 weeks old today. Of the 8 seems that 2 are roo's, when what i wanted was 8 hens. Sadly the sweetest of the bunch and the best looking is one i think is a roo. Wifes already started asking me to keep him, which sucks because I work rotating shift work, so if hes making noise all day it might affect my sleep. Might be looking for homes for 2 Silver laced wyandotte roo's.
Oh, 13 sounds lovely! I just want to go from three to six, LOL. Maybe seven, if Waffles is a roo... and I have my suspicions.Kudo's to those who have many chickens for breeding, egg production etc. the 13 I have is plenty!!![]()
I'd much prefer to add to my flock via local BYC'ers, too.Bite your tongue. There are plenty here with chicks that you should not have to buy from them. I haven't had to buy chicks from a hatchery since being here on BYC. Too I've been hatching plenty to give chicks away over the years.
Sorry, but I just like to do business with my friends first.![]()
Not "Caster" oil, "Cod Liver" oil.Horsekeeper---thanks for the link! I downloaded the poster and will print that out.
Rancher and Lynzi--you can have the pharmacy at target order you castor oil. Its cheap and I order it and use it for my birds during the winter. Guess I will be doing it when I see this issue pop up again as well. I can tell you that when I cooked eggs in castor oil, it does stink out your kitchen something fierce! I now just pour it on whatever I am going to give my birds as a treat. Less stinky

Pullets, please, my village doesn't let us have Roo's. (Though, I've gotten attached to waffles, so I may be a renegade Roo owner if he starts crowing.)
The girls are out bright and early this morning. We had some rain overnight, so they are happily digging up bugs and peeping away. Lots of crows out this morning too, and I still worry about the lone hawk I've seen out here a few times. You'd think that there would be LESS risk of predation in the suburbs!
Made plans with DH to start working on the coop this weekend! Super excited. These birds need to get OFF of my front porch!
I hope everyone has a fabulous day.
Best,
Melissa
