NY chicken lover!!!!

Don't forget the Finger Lakes Lavender Festival. I planted some in the herb garden last year and it's coming along nicely.

We're about to join the crowd by getting cable. Time Warner. I got tired of the DSL going out last night and made the call. We can't get FIOS, so TW is it.

Verizon just sent us a new modem and it's still goes out! Our phone is staticy and we've had Verizon here twice.

With DW home and resting a lot we decided cable would be it. Our reception goes haywire when the school is open and storms roll through too.

I am leary though because that $79.99 includes a $16.99 charge for equipment. Hopefully this will be a good decision.

Rancher - - when & where is the Lavender festival??
Lynzi - sorry for your losses, it must be devastating for you..

hopefully it's cooler tomorrow - we have wood to split and veggie beds to weed. Today was a total loss, too hot to do anything but breath - and even that was an effort.

Metella - you done with haying yet?? I feel for you..............

Just done tonight - and I"m so exhausted I was just tossing the last dozen or so in ... so I'll be tripping over them for a week until I feel like touching a hay bale again! ha ha

I wonder if scent can / will repel a weasel ? All I have read talks about a trap. I can't build a box if my life depended on it ....I am so not handy with tools and such .... DH won't be able to address this project for weeks - but I could spray or pee or put other things around the coop .....I can only pee so much though !

So I need something else to fill in the gaps.

I know of someone who used to take tennis balls and soak them in ammonia and then put them around the perimeter of their coop to keep predators away. she would swap the balls out with others that had been soaking. I don't know how often but maybe very few weeks?

So I spent the morning madly building chicken fence around my whole back yard to keep the flock from wandering down the hill into the bushes and weeds where I lost three hens in the last two days. Almost dropped from heat stroke working so fast, but had to leave at 12:30 with daughter for a doctor's appointment an hour away. Managed to miss a post with the sledge hammer and have a huge technicolor bruise on the top of my hand.

Got home to discover everyone alive and not too unhappy to be confined, then found one of my pekin hens dead in the nest box. They have a kiddy pool and the other five look fine, so I suspect heat stroke or heart attack from the heat. She was at least 2 years old and very large. Daughter came over and cleared some of the weeds and brush for me while I was building fence so I hope the predator is discouraged.

Grabbed the evil broody off the nest for daughter so she could grab the eggs to candle. Queen is a black australorpe and has been brooding for 25 days. Kind of a relief that all 5 eggs were clear and didn't explode when we handled them.

I have my own annual cardiology checkup tomorrow. If I didn't drop dead this morning building 50 feet of fence and turning purple from the heat I imagine my heart is doing pretty well.

They have their own web page. If you google it you'll find all the information you need. Usually there is a cutting thing where you can pay to cut your own bunch of lavender but this year there won't be due to weather problems.

there are crafters and artists and stuff like that. The first year I went I bought some note cards with chickens on them and gave the artist my Business care and she asked permission to use my Nick in her artwork.

It's a good time if you don't hurry, but take time to enjoy yourself.
