NY chicken lover!!!!

Elroddo, if the hatchery you mean is the one near Seneca Falls, I would urge you to look further. I have a litany of complaints about them, which no one on here wants to hear again, but if you read old posts they are there. The calm reasonable version is I bought Buff Orpington chicks which wound up being some kind of sex link, not BO, and in the two phone calls I made to them they never admitted any mistake or offered even an apology.

Look for a private breeder.

Edited for spelling.

Morning all. Thank you for all the kind words about the sweater I made. Im on my next project. Dont know about the rest of you but we had some horrific storms come through last night. The amount of rain was unbelievable. Dh was up during the night several times pumping out the backyard because so much rain fell so fast that the drains couldnt handle it. Supposed to get another round this evening. Had to physically put the silkie juveniles back in the coop last night. Silly babies were going to sleep in the run. Im leaving them in the coop today as I am not fishing them out again tonight with the rain thats coming. Had to chase clyde and penny out from under the big coop and throw them inside. The terrorists are still being nasty to the newbies and thats why they dont want to go in. I went in last night and laid down some law. Got real quiet quick and everyone settled down. The sexlinks are the worst. They are great layers (but I think they are done now) but man are they mean to everyone else. Cant wait to process them. My plants are jumping with this heat and rain. Still waiting for my tomato plants to flower. Hoping soon.

Tab--I wish I had your problem! Mine are still slow, only 10 eggs a day. I need these pullets to start laying!

Elroddo--so sorry for yet another loss. I would suggest, as someone else did, that if you are looking for a particular color of wyandotte, that you go to the wyandotte breed page and make inquiries there. You are more apt to find good breeders who will work with you. May I offer you some advice I learned the hard way...Buy the best stock that you can afford from a reputable breeder. A good foundation stock of quality birds will pay for itself in healthy, quality, hearty chicks and chickens. Research and ask about various breeders before deciding who to buy from. If you get hatching eggs, you will see from the moment they hatch the difference between hatchery birds and breeders birds. I learned this lesson the hard way, losing money and getting average birds or birds that werent as advertised. I think most on here would agree. There is a place for hatchery stock if you are just wanting eggs and chickens but if you are serious about specializing in something, get the best you can afford.

I hope with all these storms that everyone stays safe and that your cheeps stay safe as well. The sun is shining for the moment. I will take it.

Tab I also wish I had your problem. My girls must be on summer vacation lol

Read in the news this morning a possible tornado hit the Watkins glen area. Hope all are safe & well. The storms keep missing us but I am ok with hat. Just thankful for the rain.

My garden is growing in leaps and bounds and I found a cucumber last night. Now if my tomatoes would just start to ripen and I would be golden :)

Thanks for the advice. i don't mind doing a bit of driving, it can turn into a fun road trip. I really like wyandottes, and the cool part is I can have a mixed breed look without the mixed flock issues of some breeds being bullies to other breeds.

rancher look for an input button on your dvd remote..if you have HD then you need to move the highliter to the HDconnection on the screen.you do this by pushing that button and you should see it move.if you dont have HD then you need to look for a button that says video source..its on the bottom left on my remote..hope this helps..

We had similar experiences with mypetchicken. THEY DO NOTHING TO HELP.
I WOULD NEVER ORDER FROM THEM. And now that you are one of BYC ...
there are many friends that would help you (Rancher is one). Regards, Aria

I have medicated chick starter that i fermented, although I also had some regular medicated feed available for them. And water with electrolytes. I'm not sure that these birds that died ever really ate, the rest have and are doing fine. I have checked CL and haven't seen what I'm looking for. I'm looking for wyandottes of a certain color pattern that are harder to find. Basically anything not gold or silver laced. Full size only.

What is it you're looking for. Blue Laced Red, Blue, and Lavender? You may be able to find eggs and someone to hatch them for you. I just drove my a friends house and there was her BLR hen in the front yard with chicks.

Anyone want a light brahma mix cockerel? I told my son I'd attempt to rehome him before we decide to cull. About 9 weeks old, already has a very impressive comb and some wattles starting to come in. Not mean, but not overly friendly either.

Still looking for a couple of EE pullets / chicks, preferably within an hour's drive of Le Roy. We will be at the poultry show in Stafford in October as well. :)

Hope everyone is having a marvelous Monday!

On Facebook I'm friends with Sam. I watched her grow up in Grange. Her Aunt Amy and I used to get into ALL kinds of trouble together. Sam would know me as Becky.
How are you. I didn't realize that you were on here... Small world again. (psst...not to many people know me by my full name)

Are there any other Grange Members on here that We don't know about?
