NY chicken lover!!!!

LynzI, I have only used blucote and have used it in conjunction with one of those triple antibiotic creams that we have around the house, but it can't be the kind with pain relief, as that is toxic. I have read that the vetericyn is good, and it prob does the antibiotic thing. The important thing about blucote is that it stains the wound blue so others don't investigate the red area. If you are keeping him away from everyone until he is healed, that would be less important. When he meets them all again, he should have a long gradual introduction, like weeks of seeing each other, then a short time together supervised...if you rush it he will pay the price.

Thanks! I ended up buying both at TS. And I was happy to find a blue kote spray after hearing all the nightmares of it staining people's fingers. I thought he would be fine with the chicks seeing as how he traveled in the same box with them here to CT. For some reason after they were all placed in the pen outside they all went after him. I'll keep him here for the next couple of weeks and eventually would like to house him with Stella and Ella.

Candled my eggs yesterday, all 7 are developing. Depending on how many hatch I probably wont be keeping any of these chicks. I have a list going of people who want sizzles. Incu #2 is getting set tonight!

Go to the Dollar store and buy a bag of plastic gloves. Wear a shirt or jacket and pants you won't mind getting stained. This stuff works great but is messy. It's really like blue water and runny. Wish it was a bit thicker.

We have plastic gloves, I didn't use any. I needed one tiny spritz of it on his bare tail and that was good. Locked that cap right back! Lol

ha ha I'm always in a hurry when I use blue kote on my horses so I have stained hands for days !


Mr. Millie is walking around .... and rushing with the whole flock to their dinner tossed over the ground ... very odd as he was FLAT on his little back - like an upside down beetle and an alarming leg jerk thrown in here and there for good measure. Humph.

Morning Everyone,
Finally finished up the hawk netting this morning. Everyone is out "free ranging" in their runs. All I need to do is get a lock for the door on the dog house for Stella and Ella. Also need to figure out how to cut some spots in their new coop for ventilation. But I'm not rushing that. Right now I have a bigger problem, my poor little blue orp cockerel has been getting picked on by everyone! The first day I let them all out not only did the sizzle chicks pick on him (they're the same size!) but Elvis, my sizzle roo wanted him just about dead! So I removed him from that pen and even tried placing him with Jamie's birds (the guy I'm renting the land from) and it didn't get any better. Needless to say he is pretty beat up, I removed him completely from both pens today and brought him home. I'm running out to TS to get some Vetericyn and Blue Kote, my question is, is the Vetericyn just an antibacterial "cleanser" that just cleans the wounds? Or does it actually help to heal it as well? Do I get the Blue Kote too or no since I'm holding here to recover and no one else can get to him as he heals? If I DO get the Blue Kote do I use the Vetericyn first and then spray the blue kote on? I've never dealt with wounds before so this is all new to me. Heading out now I'll check my phone again when I get there, hopefully someone will chime in by then. Thanks!!!

Usually a older hen is not effected by adding younger ones ....as she is higher on the pecking order .
Where is she on the pecking order ? or if she is not getting enough to eat of layer that could affect her laying also

thanks ..i'll try adding some of the chicken vitamin stuff at the tractor store and see if it stops..she is the 4th inline of the older girls but still ahead of all the younger birds in pecking order..
