. There are just too many people who will get rid of a dog without trying other options first and it's a huge pet peeve of mine.
I understand. I feel the same way and that is why it saddens me soooo much!!

Thank you all for replying to my "middle of the night chicken problem" post!

Soon after posting, I had the revelation that I should try turning the outside light off. We have a light right outside the door that comes on every night. It's been on every night since they have been here, so I'm not sure why last night was a problem but anyway, I turned it off and she seemed to go away.

All four are still here this morning and I'm just waiting to hear from my friend about when she will be coming.

your welcome ....Im glad you solved the attacking Chicken problem..
I have had male birds doing this in the spring ...with their reflection in the window ..
...they think it is another male bird ..and are fighting it ..
With a chicken she just wanted to roost with the other bird she saw ..
Not being self aware she didnt know it was herself ...once the light was off she saw / heard the other three

I finally found some Feather Fixer!! 40lb bags too!! Hopefully my birds will finish up their molt before the cold weather strikes. Also fixed my light timer. I set it today and the lights did NOT go on since I set it to go on for 4am - 9am so that when I get there tomorrow morning I'll be able to tell if it worked properly or not. I usually go to let them out at 8am. It gets light in the coop before then anyway and once it's light in there you can't even tell there is a light on. Fingers crossed all goes well.

I've got a coupon for $2 off on the fridge. I've a bag in the garage too. I get the coupons on line also. You might want to sign up with them.

Do you think Purina is better than Dumor? With the coupon it's the same price as Dumor.

Both are more than Agway.

Since the last mess with Country Max here I've been just going to TSC. I hate to drive out to Cicero. I may though since I like to feed them Egg Producer Pellets in the cold weather.

It took four people and 45 minutes but all four SS hens have been caught! They are on their way to my friend's farm in Petersburgh (on the border of VT). I hope I get some free eggs out of this deal. :)

I don't really know too much about Purina vs Dumor, I don't really read into it too much, just go by what I feel my birds do best with. I was buying Purina's Flock Raiser when I had the ducks but now that I don't, I usually just stick to the Layena pellets. Flock Raiser is Nutrena and I like that it has the added Mite Preventative in it. Not that I've ever had mites on my birds around their vent area, if and when I do find them, it's on the Silkies in their crest feathers. Surprisingly I haven't had any mite problems since moving down here (knock on wood). I'm wondering if it helped having them in the bigger coop since it stays dryer in there than any of the smaller coops I ever had did. half my hens are going thru a molt right now which is why I was looking for the flock raiser. The guy only charged me $14.80 per bag which I didn't think was bad at all.

I've been enjoying the pâtés as everyone works through their stuff. We have been besieged by ticks, or at least our dog has been. Have taken her in the woods a few times of late and yesterday I picked 8 ticks off her mostly the back of her neck/shoulders. Today 4 from around her right eye. Vet apt. Tomorrow, think we'll have a Lyme test, and maybe one in 6 weeks, these recent ticks won't register yet. Maybe I need fowl that will eat ticks and slugs. The chickens do well on earthworms, however. But I like earthworms.
